The media in every country sucks the balls off of any fighter in their locality - capitalism rules KO.
The British media are as guilty of this as the American media and any other capitalist country. I remember all of the BS hyperbole spouted about Jeff Lacy as an example… Perhaps the Cuban media keep it real
As for Haye (I still can’t forgive him for giving Audley Harrison, the worst joke in the heavyweight division, a shot), he has a lot of hype around him, mostly his own, but he’s won titles abroad and he deserves a lot of respect for those fights - Jean Pascal particularly.
Don’t be fooled though, it wasn’t all that long ago that a journeyman Italian fighter, Giacobbe Fragomeni, came close to beating Haye in York Hall. I was there. To be fair, Haye gutted it out despite a really bad cut over his eye though.
Do I share the original poster’s confidence…not so much. I think it’s too tight to call.
PS. I hope you’re all tuning into the World Series of Boxing - if not, check it out…
I don’t think we should start pretending that support for the home team is a “capitalist” phenomenon…
Home team support is a different point and I agree btw.
My point, which was a fairly facetious one at best, was that publicists, promoters and the media are in the sales business. Even the good old BBC, a supposed bastion of independent reporting (hint of cynicism here), needs to justify their licence fees and provide value for money. I’m just saying that hyperbole sells newspapers, tickets, whatever. Hence the (tongue in cheek) possibility of the Cubans not giving a fuck…
Anyway, this is rambling off topic.

Yeah, there’s no point starting an argument over nothing. I do dislike the British press though. Maybe you’re right and it’s my proximity that’s the problem. Maybe the Americans are just as bad but a long way away. Either way, the press over there have made my skin creep too many times for me to just forget it.
Back to boxing.
Does anyone think that Ivan Calderon will be able to keep a relentless Segura off his ass for a whole 12 rounds?
