Can someone explain the terms re: benching with "shirt,“raw” and the “board.”
And yes, I’m working on finding that full-page article about the 600lb bench by the high school dude, so hold your jabs until I find it.
Don’t bother, we all know it’s bullshit.
Oh, yeah, I’m making the whole thing up so I can garner respect from you and maybe make a few friends and get laid.
Whatever the weight was it was sick-fucking-huge for a 175 punder and you’ll see a copy of it as soon as I find it. This wasn’t a 400 pound bench. So give me a week or 2 and come back here to apologize.

Listen buddy, I have know some of the greatest powerlifters ever. I’ve worked on some of them and seen big lifts in person. I don’t care if it’s in a newspaper, it’s still bullshit. It never happened, you are wrong. or making shit up.
You ever talk to Ed Coan, or work on him? You ever lift at Westside or post on Dave tate’s q&A?
I’ve been in this game and involved with it since 1982, and no 175 pound guy did a raw lift with 71 more pounds than maybe the greatest lifter ever who at the time held the world record bench. I’ve seen world record lifts and they’re not done by random kids in gyms.
Do it in meet. Also, here are some raw benchers at that time with recorded meet benches over or at 600 pounds. Jonh Kuc, Bib Jim Williams, and Doug young, all done at 275+ pounds. Mike MacDonald at app 242. Paul dicks did one at app 220, I think 612, with a bench shirt. but back in the day, they didn’t help much.
Kaz did some and would have been the first guy to hit 700 if he didn’t tear his pec at a WSM contest. He did 661 at app. 275-300 lbs.
Jim Williams did do 700 in front of credible witnesses, but not in a meet. He was over 300 pounds.
And the first guy to ever hit 600 pounds was Pat Casey who tripped the scales at 275-310.
All of these guys were at least 45 pounds heavier and most were 100 pounds or more heavier than this mythical high school kid. Now if his name was Peter Parker i might believe it,but this is the biggest BS story I have heard in a long time.
