Have You Ever Seen a 600 lb Bench Press

I’ve seen an 840 pound geared bench.

High school. Guy who was one year ahead of me at St. Mary’s Prep in Orchard Lake MI. Kevin “KC” Clouse. I believe he was 5’7" and weighed 175. He bent the bars in the gym and I believe he did 600 pounds+ because I remember that he benched 3.5 times his bodyweight. This was 1983, maybe earlier, and I remember that there were 6 big plates on each side along with 4 of the biggest dudes in the school spotting him. (OLSM was and still is a real “jock” school, producing many All-Americans for a school that had only 250 guys.) This was his bench, not his squat.

There was an entire page about KC in the Detroit Free Press (or the News) about how he was one of the strongest guys in the world at that time pound-for-pound.

I really wish I had saved that newspaper because I’m sure a lot of people won’t believe this.[/quote]

lol. I love it when people make stuff up and don’t even bother checking wolrd records beforehand to see if they are even in the same ball park as believeable. ESPECIALLY with the internet at the fingertips.

“It ain’t no ballpark either…ain’t the same ballpark, ain’t the same league, ain’t even the same fuckin’ sport…”

+1 to whoever identifies the quote first (don’t cheat and look it up on google either, since saveski obviously didn’t bother using google before his post, you shouldn’t either!)

That last video is known to be fake. If I remember correctly he posted as much on that video when he uploaded it, said he was just messing around or something along those lines.

It’s possible he’s not making it up, just remembering it as more than it actually was. 1983 was a long time ago. You can add a lot of weight to the bar in 27 years.

Perhaps. But thats some serious “misremembering of the facts”. My guess is that the weight was misremembered at a rate of 10 pounds per year!

Foot massages.

I have seen guys bench between 600lbs to 800lbs…i work out with Joel Toranzo who is a world record holder in the bench press…i also workout with a guy who weighs in at 230 and recently benched 630 in a huge meet down in Newark, NJ…You may find youtube videos of Joel benching, he is also known as The Cuban Bull…Most of his videos is when he was pretty heavy, like 300+, but he has benched 785 at only 275lbs…

Haha, that sounds about right. Whenever I listen [or read] to someone remembering some incredible feat I think of that line from Memento: “Your memory can change the color of a car or the time of the occurance. Memory is unreliable.”

“It’s an interpretation, not fact”

What a phenomenal movie.

I’ve never seen anyone bench that much weight. I’ve seen a couple ~450 benches but that’s it. Hopefully in 27 years I can claim I’ve seen a 720 bench.

This bench might be close to 600 Lbs, it’s made of cement. Wait Wut?

V

I Bench 600 + all the time.

315x10 = 3,150lbs

Every time I watch it I’m blown away at how good it is. Back on track, I never actually saw the guy I mentioned earlier bench 585, just heard about it. I did see him handle 315 for at least 15 though. Don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone bench more than 450-ish either.

Bumper plates.

I’ve seen a 850lb bench at the dec 4-6 AAU meet in Laughlin, NV ofcourse shirted but just a single ply inzer. Theguy was Mike Womak he did a 600 raw to warm up.

That’s fucking scary

I’ve never seen 400 pounds but I guess that could be because of my age, the people I train with and lack of public training.

I’ve been looking for that article by some experienced guy who claimed that 300 benches are somewhat rare and that during his history of training, he has seen few legit 400 pound benches, some of which were by gear users.

I can think of at least a dozen members of my gym who I have seen powerlifting-legal raw bench 405.

Where at?

I’ve seen Ryan Kennelly bench at just about every local meet here since about 1999. So thats 640-1000+ in that span. Pretty impressive.
