You’re already one up on a lot of boaters, by knowing how to swim and be comfortable in the water. I remember a commercial fisherman once told me that neither he nor his crew knew how to swim. “Why bother?” He said. “If your boat goes down when you’re miles offshore, where’re you gonna swim to??”

I don’t agree. Even if I couldn’t swim, I’d grab a piece of floating debris and paddle like hell.

-Bowling. Yet I can’t find an article of recommended exercises for the bowler-bodybuilder… neither in the bodybuilding nor bowling community. Besides, most bowlers static-stretch before playing. I preffer to dynamic-stretch before a game with some of the drills learned here!

I was searching the site to see if there were any avid bowlers in this community and stumbled onto your post. I been bowling for a while now and the only exercise that seem to make sense is working the forearms and wrist. If you are hooking the ball (like Chris Barnes) you are using some of the forearm and wrist to lift and rotate the ball. But if you just bowl straight, there are no exercises that will help your score. I never seen anyone stretch nor have I stretched before bowling.

I think I win extra geek points if I mention that I used to run the computers for SETI out at Arecibo.

(I have pictures from when an ex-director took me for a nice walk out onto the platform above the dish, and then a hike under the dish. Including shots that remind me just how porky I’d let myself get.)

Two of my main hobbies, I even worked briefly with John Suhr. (of Fender Custom Shop fame, now owner of Suhr Guitars.

Haganah and coaching my daughters softball teams take up the rest of my time.

Sex, Fixing things, electronic repair, modifying audio gear, technical - medical reading, helping others.

knitting/crochet (sighhave enough yarn stashed to go around the world at least once)
japanese bunka embroidery
3-D origami dolls
and when good and bored with above - technical medical reading to relax

Bringing up an old thread b/c this has been bugging the shit out of me lately. I’ve been out of work for about 5 weeks and got sick of doing the following:

job searching, internet porn, video games (don’t want to spend money on new ones to beat) and walking the dogs.

I don’t have any fucking hobbies (other than lifting and sex, both of which I can’t do all day every day)

I’d love to have a project car to work on, so that’s a hobby for the near future.

I used to draw/sketch a lot, so I might give that another shot so I can finish designing my ink.

I just read through a bunch of “hobbies for guys” sites online and came up with a few ones I might want to give a shot:

  1. Target Shooting. I’ve got two guns at my folks house waiting for me to pick up. So when I get them, I’ll give that a go.
  2. Coaching. I played hockey for nearly 20yrs so maybe I’ll give that a shot this fall/winter.

Anyone else got some good ideas?
How about any that could be profitable?

Nevermind-- I thought this was a new thread! I already answered… duh. Gave the same damn answer anyway! LOL

hmm, was about to type an answer myself, but shit hasn’t changed. Except I don’t bother with cocktails any more. Just throw some ice in the glass and I am all good.

Just an observation. This subject has brought more new people on board posting than any other. I guess I can claim anti-geek status. Last game I played was Wolfenstein under Windows 3.1 I think. [/quote]

One of the original 1st person shooters, I believe.
