Ludus Magnus didn’t have AC (they did, but never turned it on). They opened all the doors and blasted huge fans. You get used to it.

Cavalier-Did Ludus Magnus lift in 90 degree and more with the humidity? I’ve been doing it now about 6 years so maybe I’m fairly used to it and I work outside servicing lawns all day as well. I do have a small fan in the garage and I feel the added harshness of my training environment makes me stronger. The mosquitos, gnats, and other small bugs interrupting my lifting is a pain in the ass though.

OG -You are absolutely right.

Matty-Thanks.

Back to the lifting tonight in about an hour. I had a pretty good day and I stayed well hydrated so hopefully the hefting will be good this evening.

Last night the lifting went well but I didn’t push myself too much considering how worn out I’ve been this week.

It was another killer day of work in the sun today so I’ll lift tomorrow morning. On one point I may not be able to lift in the meet in June because the deadline for entry is soon and my budget may not allow for the extra expense. So if I can’t work it out there will be another meet in the future.

Really nice lifting GV.

Think about what kind of shape your are going to be in. BTW, what happened with your training partner?

Thanks Joe.
Crippler-Yeah I may be a lot stronger if I wait and train for a longer period before my next meet however I’m going to do my best to be in the upcoming June meet right before Father’s Day. It will be a good excuse to sit around and be lazy on Sunday however I find that may be an impossible thing for me to do. My lifting partner is no longer. He can’t be consistent with showing up when I lift due to his work schedule and he isn’t geared up for training the way I do so I am solo again.

Saturday the lifting went well. I didn’t have much time to lift due to family plans so I condensed the routine.

T-Handle Swings:
110 lbs x 2 sets x 10 reps(btwn 1st two sets)

Squats(knee sleeves and belt used):
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 3
405 x 1
495 x 1
550 x 1(May be my opener for the meet)

Deadlifts:
135 x 5
225 x 5
315 x 3
405 x 1(This felt like 900 lbs so I did one more and that was it)
405 x 1

Squatting went well but deads were flat. Considering the last week of work and because I was moving so quickly between sets and total lifting time it was a pretty good day. I’m hoping for more sleep and a lighter work load this week which should equal heavier weights lifted.

Last night the lifting went well.

ME Fat Gripz Close Grip Bench Press:
135 x 10
185 x 5
225 x 1
252 x 1
257 x 1

Dead Stop Pin Bench Press(Starting at 4 inches over chest-a little more than a 3/4 press to full extension)
135 x 5

225 x 3 x 3

Sanding OHP:
135 x 5
175 x 3

Dips:
1 x 10
35 lbs dumbbell x 3 sets x 6 reps

Standing Crunches:
80 lbs x 15

First time I’ve done dips in forever and I loved it. I felt my triceps and chest get significant work so I will keep them up to hopefully get a boost on the bench. I have to figure out a way to use more weight with a chain on my belt. Had to grab the dumbbell with my feet-kind of fun.

Lifting went rather well tonight and I am feeling the work in my legs as well as total body wrecking.

T-Handle Swings:
110 lbs x 2 sets x 10 reps(btwn 1st two sets)

ME Box Squats(Parallel seat)(RAW)
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 3
405 x 1

Dead Stop Pin Squats(3 inches above parallel)
495 x 3
405 x 3 x 3

DE Dead Stop Stifflegged Deadlifts(Starting at mid Shin):
135 x 5
225 x 5
355 x 8 sets x 3 reps(1 min btwn sets)

Standing Crunches:
80 lbs x 15

Didn’t do many different exercises but all felt pretty good and the heavy destruction continues.

Good work while training through the heat.
drink lots of water and reduce sets if needed. Other than that stay the course.

A 550 opener is big. Any idea what you want for a max?

Rick I hear you, solid advice.
Crippler, I may be overshooting my goals. My opener may be a lot less. I have two things in mind if I make the meet. One the RAW nationals master’s squat record I believe is 600.14(or something like that) lbs so I may be shooting to beat that or beat the RAW Florida State record which is 611 lbs and change. I may try to beat both records with a 613 or 617 lbs squat.

Then, my goal will be to break the RAW National open record by my next meet in the USAPL which I believe is 651 lbs. So, I may open with a 505 then make my jumps from there. Or, depending how training goes over the next 3 weeks I may open higher and destroy a couple records. My bench still rots and my dead has been suffering however with some training tweaks hopefully I will ramp up the weight I am moving.

Good work GV. Buy a double snap (buy a chrome one as the ones that look like steel are actually hollow and can break). Loop the chain around your belt, you can then put a plate or plates through either end of the loop, attach the double snap to either end of the chain and your ready to go. You can also attach either end to a double snap to form a loop after wrapping around your belt and simply hand one of a dumbbell from the chain between your legs.

Either way make sure your chain is long enough, having a couple of forty five pound plates and a 100 pound dumbbell hitting you in the nuts as you are trying to complete a rep can be a painful experience.

Last time I used a belt and chain with weights for dips must have been about 8 years ago at a gym I used to lift at.

I have to agree with DB on the weighted dips. Super good for getting some extra out of the bench. Just use strict form and be shoulder aware.
You’ll crush the RAW record dude.

Miss doing dips a ton…I was a real dipshit back in the day

Yeah when I do dips I make an effort not to go too deep past parallel on the descent so as not to injure my shoulders. I hope to stay healthy that way.
Tonight I felt rested and fairly strong for pretty good day with the weights.

Energy was good tonight most probably because it was overcast all day and I worked in the shade so to speak. I think it only got up to about 83 degrees today so my heat stress was less than normal and I felt refreshed. Lucky us, the storms this evening were the edge of a cold front and tomorrow the thermometer should only rise to 81 degrees which will aid me in another good lifting day.

Couldn’t train yesterday afternoon or evening due to having the feeling of being run over by a tank. I did some work today but only a few hours and the weather is beautiful and somewhat cool. I think the high today was only 80 degrees and there was a cool 16 mph wind which made working outside and training very comfortable.

T-Handle Swings:
110 lbs x 2 x 10

Trap Bar Deadlifts:
140 x 5
230 x 5
320 x 3
410 x 1
530 x 1

After completing this routine I felt dizzy and a bit loopy for a few minutes. Now I just feel like one of those monster-dumptrucks drove over me so all is good. Now the recovery work begins which means a whole bunch of mobility work, good eating, good supps, and hopefully a heap of sleep tonight after the SNL season finale.

Had a good night lifting and training and thinking about the meet which is in only 4 more weeks.

Felt good tonight and the intensity was fairly high.

Four weeks out, it’s time to zero in. You gotta love it!

Training looks strong GV. For some reason I thought you weren’t doing the meet in June. Glad to hear you are.
