Hardcore Essentials2

Looks like you’re on track for a fabulous meet. 725. Wow. Just mind boggling for me. The 12th will be here in no time!

pushharder-Every tool that can help is great.

Snap-Thanks, the road is an arduous journey but hopefully all will come together for a good showing.

You going to get that 600 pound deadlift? I might be hungry.

Crippler-I hope I will pull at least 600 so get ready to eat steak. I will be eating about a pound of steak tonight just for practice. I don’t know if it’s this way with you but after a meet I can’t eat a lot. It’s like my insides are in revolt but the next day my appetite picks up and I can pile down a mound of food. I wonder if a lot of powerlifters experience this phenomenon.

Training was intense tonight and most felt well except that I have a pull I have been dealing with since deadlifts the other night. It seems the psoas on my right hip is slightly injured but I am working on it and it didn’t stop me from lifting big tonight.

Bench Press:
135 x 10
185 x 5
225 x 2(paused)
265 x 2(paused)
301 x 2(touch and go)
301 x 2 sets x 1(paused)

SlingShot Bench Press:
335 x 1
345 x 3/4 rep(just missed this lockout)

Squats:(raw)
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 2
405 x 2
495 x 5 sets x 2 reps

I decided to skip standing crunches tonight because they stress my entire mid section and I didn’t want to add any injury to my psoas or hip area.

Strong session GV. All of the heavy squatting might put you over the top for a 600+ pull.

Thanks Dave I hope to do much better than 600 for my squat at the meet but training is one day at a time. If I can stay healthy then there is a greater chance of doing well as we all know. By some miracle over the last week and half I didn’t get my kid’s cold but my wife did.

I was talking about a 600 pull. No doubt you have more than 600 in you squatting. I just think all of the heavy squatting will likely have some carryover to your pull as well.

Good luck avoiding the illnesses and staying healthy into the meet GV.

Thanks Dave. Tonight was doomed from the beginning. On Monday I took my family to Universal and we walked around and did rides for about 8 hours. I was not recovered at all from lifting on Saturday and being at the amusement park had other powerlifting drawbacks. But the kids had fun so that is good.

Other than being dehydrated and undernourished Monday it was a lot of activity when I really needed to rest. As a result of the Monday fun at Universal my body was a wreck tonight but I attempted to lift anyway.

Squats:(raw)
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 1
405 x 1
500 x 1(was supposed to do much more but I knew when 315 felt like a ton on my back things were askew)

Bench Press:
135 x 10
185 x 5
225 x 2(paused)
256 x 5 sets x 2 reps(paused)[Was able to get tonight’s scheduled lifting in but again this felt way heavier than it should have]

Deadlifts:
225 x 5
315 x1(Since my body felt like it might implode with lifting this light weight I decided to call it a night.)

The strain I previously mentioned in my right hip lingers on and is a bitch sometimes but I’m constantly working on it. I may not lift again until Monday which is the day my program call for. I think I need the rest and recovery time because I’m a big ball of hurt. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Happy Thanksgiving sir.

Happy belated Thanksgiving. Good time to rest.

Thanks Crippler and Biker. Taking the last 5 days off has let me heal up a bit. The pull in my right hip area was severe and it seemed my entire lower back and lower ab area was a bit injured. I thought I might have a hernia but yesterday and today I’ve only had a small bit of discomfort so I lifted. The meet is only 12 days away so I am beginning to think about my openers. On another note I am starting a job at Costco tomorrow doing a seasonal position. I hope I am chosen to stay on at Costco when the seasonal term is up but I have to do really well.

Bench Press:
135 x 10
185 x 5
225 x 2
275 x 2
315 x 1(pause-current PR)
300 x 1(pause)
275 x 2(paused)

Squats(raw):
135 x 10
225 x 5
315 x 2
405 x 2
495 x 3 sets x 2
505 x 2 sets x 2

My legs are fried from all the squatting so now I will do a bunch of therapy before sleep so I can get around tomorrow. The challenge of my morning landscaping and then afternoon and evening Costco work will be fun. Even more fun will be finding a way to get in my lifting. Peace out.

Nice work GV. Congrats on the post surgery bench PR. Best of luck at the new job.

X2 on what Dave said…

Good work and strong as I remember.

Thanks Dave and OG, it’s been a long road.
Great to hear from you Fischer, thank you and it’s good to see you posting.

Looking strong. Good luck with the new job. Costco is a great company.

Landscaping/Costco/Powerlifting/Writing. Must be nice to be young.

I forgot raising a family in last post.

Is your next book about mosquitoes? I can provide some suggestions for title.

I guess our mosquitoes are worse here than Florida’s.

Might want to consider salability of a book featuring a mosquito character.

Tonight I did a fairly easy lifting session and my last big day will be Sunday before the meet.

Bench Press:
135 x 10
185 x 5
225 x 2(paused)
265 x 1(paused)
300 x 1(pause)

Deadlifts:
225 x 3
315 x 1
405 x 1
495 x 1
525 x 1

Standing Crunches:
70 lbs x 20

My right hip still has a strained area but I didn’t injure it anymore tonight and I feel I will be able to do enough therapy to have it healed up for the meet.
