So tonight I couldn’t get away from my 5 year old because she was doing so great on a learning site preparing her for school. She was kicking but at a first grade level in math and reading and she hasn’t even hit Kindergarten yet. I’m a very proud daddy. Then I tore myself away to lift and left my wife to keep the learning going a little longer with my daughter.

Weight move nicely tonight. It only took me about 3 1/2 hours to recover after work before I could lift and the temps were nice, about 84 degrees. That was cool because it was up to around 96 degrees for work and I was in the garage so sans sun the humidity is much more tolerable.
Only 92 degrees today and there was a slight breeze so after a swim with my family lifting was sort of cool but the swim lowered my body temp so much my energy level was just lacking any umph. Lifting was strong and satisfying.

Quick lifting session went well. Should get back to deadlifting this week if work doesn’t knock me for a loop.
GV, it may be worth a deep tissue trip. When my Psoas is tight (which is always), my hips tighten up and transfer everything to the lower back. it get progressively worse for me. does this sound familiar? graston on the hips may help too.
that reminds me, I need to schedule a hip session.
hawkcapt1912: It absolutely sounds familiar. In fact when I was doing the 500 deads a few weeks ago after heavy squats and bench I felt a rip in my left hip area that really, I figured, is behind all the discomfort I have been feeling ever since. However, I have been making progress in healing and recovery. Squats for some reason do no bother my hips as much as doing deads since but I believe I will be back in full working condition very soon.

Me too. But maybe it’s cause I like squats better?
Sorry you’ve been suffering so many aches and pains. Gotta love getting older.
Snap is right. Getting older sucks in many ways. My mind tells me I can do things my body says I can’t. Case in point, I was bragging to my daughter I could do a dive roll. She said I couldn’t and challenged me. Oh I did it but I heard everything in my body crack, and I think I blacked out for a couple seconds. Needless to day, I’ll never do that again.
Yeah, your age is probably the reason you’re not benching over a thousand pounds.
You’re wisely taking it easy with present lifting. I squatted fairly heavy for over 5 months not knowing that pain down back of my leg would culminate in back surgery on my 30th birthday.
I like what DBaster wrote earlier: “Your foundation is rock solid at this stage, injury is the only thing that is going to cause a major setback for you. Skipping some sessions when you aren’t 100% isn’t going to have any impact on your numbers.”
Thanks Snap…yeah I love getting older. The sun is not taking a break and today it was 102 degrees for work which has me in a bit of a state of shock lately. Dizziness and feeling in a sort of fugue part of the work day is becoming normal even though I am upping my water intake and electrolytes. The battle is on going.
Crippler, I’ve felt like that when I have tried to do a Crossfit advanced class or go with the young men doing MMA. The only difference between me and them is I’ve been working in the sun all day or lifting heavy the day before then I do their class and I have trouble keeping up. I figure it’s a little bit age but mostly my efforts in other areas have sapped my energy and it shows up. And, I scale back on doing scary tumbles to hopefully avoid something coming loose in my skeleton.
Biker, no doubt taking a break has been a good thing and Dave is right. I would like to avoid any surgery especially due to my training or work.
So lifting went well tonight. Temps were just at 98 degrees to train in and after a baking day in the sun at work I was wondering how I would be affected. After 3 hours of recovery from work, a coffee, and a must do attitude I got to it.

Did very little work today and felt very fortunate we had hours of overcast and rainy skies that lowered the temp to only 80 degrees for lifting tonight.

It was a good lifting night and the heavy sets on both lifts were strong. I’m still feeling some discomfort in my hips so I put deads on hold for tonight but hopefully I’ll start doing the dead work again next week.
I think it only got up to 102 degrees today for work and it was a cool 95 degrees for lifting plus there was a little breeze I caught between sets when I walked outside the garage. Lifting went well.

Right hip area giving me gripe tonight so I called off the deads again but they are soon to return.

maybe rack pulls or block pulls until hip fully cooperates? you’ll at least be able to get some top end/lock out work done. it’s allowed me to get some pulls in when mobility limited me getting down to the bar.
Have you thought about groove briefs for your hips? I use them during every squat session since the IT Band injury and I find it keeps my hips SUPER happy.
Hawcapt, I think that’s a great idea and I’ll include some rack pulls next training day. late2thegame, I wouldn’t use groove briefs because I go all raw training and competing plus squats for some reason cause me no pain.
Work heat today was only 101 degrees and the humidity was unbearable but before and while working out we had a Florida blizzard(rain thunderstorm) and I lifted in a cool 74 degrees which was awesome. My two year-old’s cold has been trying to whup my ass but I’ve been battling it with extra zinc, vitamin C, and garlic so it’s been an even bout. So, I was partly sick and worn out and lifting was good.

Feeling strong in spite of having congestion in my chest and throat but I’m not about to let some bug keep me down.
