Well it was Mt. Luther King day so all the hot young chicks stayed home. Surprisingly, only 5 others were at the class and it was about 50 degrees which means most Floridians will consider it too cold to go out to exercise, I think. I went to a Crossfit class once during the summer and it full of hot, scantily garbed young vixens.
Lifting tonight was light and fast. My body is finally getting over the soreness from Crossfit but I’ve been hurting.

225 x 5
315 x 3
Bench Press:
135 x 10

Well tonight I began another 3 weeks of gradual increases in the next phase of Bulgarian delight. I didn’t know how I would feel tonight because I caught another slight bug from one of my daughters and have had a sore throat the last 5 days or so but it hasn’t been too harsh on my body except to make me a little more drowsy than normal. Anyway, I had a good first night back.

No pains, no strains and everything moved strongly.
Another bug? You have to love the way kids bring crap home.
NIce work ya big ape !

Been feeling light lately. My weight is only 209 lbs and battling with these sinus infections/colds has taken their toll. Thankful to have a productive night.

All done in about 35 minutes and felt strong, a good night.
Was supposed to train today however I suddenly had to babysit all day for my almost 2 year old(Total delight). And, then I had an early dinner date with my wife planned for a birthday party for a friend. So, I figured I would come back home and have a crazy night training session around 9 pm however we were invited to an after party-party so training was nixed. Oh well, I guess I will train before the Superbowl tomorrow and call it one of those short weeks back.
GV, been following your log. Thanks for being so detailed for us readers.
The Bulgarian method has peaked my interest as of late. i have a few questions about how you’re programming:
- how many sessions are you fitting in a weeks time, and how many do you want to graduate to?
- are you doing any back off work? Looks like you’re going up to your daily max then moving on.
- any insight to make this program successful?
- I swear it just seems similar to wendlers beyond 5/3/1 template. No?
Thanks and keep killing it.

Way to keep things in perspective.
Any word from DBasler on his meet? His log locket out.
No word yet on Dave but expecting a new post soon.
Well, I’ve missed the first half of the Superbowl and many commercials but I got my lifting in and I can now watch the rest of the game.

One of those sub-prime lifting days. Perhaps tomorrow will be better.

IronOne-Sorry if I didn’t answer in the past. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I am averaging 5 days a week of training and sometimes getting 6 days a week if I can. I rarely do any back off work on my squats or deadlifts however I do some back off lifting on the bench press depending on the stress and effort of my daily max. My advice for doing this bulgarian style program is to just lift every day possible and make the commitment to be consistent. One doesn’t always need to set a new PR every day but one needs to get out there and push close to the limits of one’s ability on a regular basis-and that means 5 to 6 times a week. My set scheme probably does resemble Wendler’s template but that’s because it’s a basic powerlifting ramping technique I learned many years ago. I have never read a Wendler book although I’ve read some of his articles and I respect him greatly. IronOne, I hope this answers your questions and I look forward to hearing from you in the future.
GV, are you getting any rows or pullups in, or just relying on deads and such for back/pulling work?
Wow I give you credit, I cant lift on back to back days any longer, I cant recover, every other day max for me now.
Jack,
I am just doing squat, bench, deadlifts, and OHP. I have to say many days my entire back is sore from the previous days and my lats are growing. Have to say I am very pleased the way the almost every day lifting works my entire body with great intensity.
Matty,
Thank you, it’s tough work but my body feels worse when I take more than a day or two off every week.
I just got exciting news. I asked my friend, that is one of the people running the RUM this weekend, if I could help with things like loading weight, spotting, etc. and he said sure. So, I will be part of the staff at the Raw Unity Meet 8 which is awesome because I will get to see and meet some of the best powerlifters in the world. The meet is in Deland and is only about 46 miles from me so I’m on it and I won’t have to pay to be a part of the event. I’ve always wanted to compete in a RUM but 4 and 5 years ago when I could have been in a RUM I had injuries and was to occupied. Hopefully, I still will be able to compete in a RUM in the future. Getting to be staff at the RUM 8 is going to be spectacular.
Sounds like fun. I assume you’ll have a report next week.
