Hard conditioning or more lifting?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been able to fit 3 lifting sessions the last couple of weeks. Sometimes I can fit an extra day but wondering if its better spent doing hard conditioning. I don’t really have hard conditioning goals, I’m 32 and just trying to look good and continue making some strength gains. Just curious how other people approach their training.

PD: I do perform 2-3 easy conditioning sessions per week

I think you’d benefit from adding a hard conditioning workout every 7-10 days. You could replace one of your easy conditioning workouts with it.

If you are looking for examples, the Tactical Barbell II: Conditioning book has a lot of great workouts to choose from. They range from track workouts, to KB workouts, to Airdyne or similar.

Another option is to check out example WODs from CF.

Personally, I don’t think adding another lifting session is ideal if your goals are to look good and have a more well-rounded fitness level and physique.

Choose the one that interests you more currently. But if you pick hard conditioning, pick a goal and work towards it with purpose.

If you’re trying to “look good” (i’m assuming gain a little muscle and lose a little fat?) lifting every other day at a minimum is a good start, but you could eventually crank it up to 5 or 6 days a week a few months in, once your body adapts.

If you get pushback from any of your joints, stretch and rest and stretch and rest. Stretching is “active recovery” but moderation is key.

If you feel fatigued overall, eat more and analyze your sleep. Exercise should energize you, once you adapt.

Good luck!
