Great goals.

I find your bench story interesting. Looks like you have not only forged a truce with that lift but become friends. That’s cool. Meet is only a month off?
Meet is June 3rd and I’ll most likely do a push pull in August that’s 10 minutes from my house (can’t pass that up)

I’m on a deload week so here’s a pic of my 13 mile finish last week at Tough Mudder.

That’s impressive. Don’t know why, but I couldn’t enter something like that - always had a strong dislike of mud.

It was a blast…I’ve never been surrounded by as many super fit men and women. Tons of cross fit people were participating. Lots of fun and partnership among like minded strangers. Then we all had a beer…or two

That pic should eb your avatar.

that picture is GREAT!!! I’m super impressed you pounded out the miles in addition to training for PL.

Now, the countdown to the meet…!!

Late night training after along workday but things worked out. Body weight is 198.5

Squats

45,135,185,225,275,315,365x2 wraps on 385x2, 405x1 really focusing on depth and descending speed. The faster I go down the deeper I get and rebound kicks in naturally.

Band squats

135, 225, 315, 365x2

Those bands want to yank you back the second you unrack!!

deadlifts off 3" block

225, 315, 405, 455, 475x1

Best I’ve felt in a while…video highlights below

I’m just lurking…but this is some cool stuff!

Meet recap.

First off Made weight at 195. I don’t like cutting and won’t let my weight get to far out of my weight class again.

I expected to be rushed so I listened for my name “in the hole” and then wrapped my knees and stood behind the “on deck” lifter. I did this for every attempt and it really helped me clear my head instead of running from one room to another trying to get my gear on. I saw a lot of that going on and it looked stressful.

Squat openner 400lbs:
I knew if I buried this I would be ok and erase my 415 bomb out demons.
Good lift

Squat second attempt 430lbs:
This was a 5 pound PR over the 425 I hit in training 2 weeks ago.
Good lift

Squat final attempt 450lbs:
What’s an extra dime on each side gonna do? I just kept telling myself “its just two ten pound plates” and went as deep and fast as I could. It was a grinder. Front judge was awesome. Told me to lock my knees vs just red lighting  me.
Good lift

25 pound Total  PR
I’ve put 80lbs on my squat over the past  year. Considering I bombed out with 415 on the bar a few months ago this made the meet for me.

Bench openner 275lbs:
I was so self conscious about obeying commands that I just stayed there with my arms locked out waiting for a down command! The head judge said “you can lower that anytime you want rob” so I did and got the lift…funny being a rookie
Good lift

Second attempt 305
My best paused bench to date was 300 so my plan was to hit this then go to 315.
(the side judge said my butt almost came up so I should be careful next attempt)
Good lift

Last attempt 320
I should have stuck to my 315 plan but then I’d be wondering if I had a 320 in me. The weight went up and I fought just enough to know I could not finish. Spotters grabbed it. I thanked them for their quick response and got ready for pulls.
No lift

I only took a few single warm ups because my deadlift openner  was pretty light for me and became my last warm up. I looked up the deadlift record for my division, it was 530lbs set by one of T-Nation’s old writers…that was the extra fire I needed. It was on.

Deadlift openner 485
Went up as easy as it should have
Good lift

Second attempt 515
515 is the most I’ve pulled in a few years so I knew if this was tough I was going to have a hard time grabbing that 530. It went up fast.
Good lift

Last attempt 550lbs
When I struggle to make a pull my left leg starts quaking like crazy. I never got the quakes, bar just went up and my only regret was that I didn’t go for 575.
Good lift

1st place 198 raw masters
Best overall powerlifter
New 198 masters raw DL title holder
PRs in squat and Bench press
First full meet in the books

Next meet Nov 4th 2012

Special thanks to Adam Hires for my programming. He’s called every rep and every set for the last 6 months. His programming left little room for error. You do what he tells you and you get stronger…period.  Hulkhires@yahoo.com

Surpassed my 6 month goal of a 1300 total by 5 lbs and feel like I have a lot more in me.

Special thanks to the beautiful
Mrs Mattyxl for video taping my lifts

Awesome work! That is some great lifting.

Oh my.

Really fantastic.

What fed? A monolift and no start command in the bench and knee wraps for raw . . . SPF?

You must be on top of the world!

Now, tell me about the programming. How did you find this guy?

Great meet results! I love a good success story.

Fed is WNPF. Lots of meets all year round.

Coach was Adam Hires he’s one of the best 220 raw lifters around. Found him online and hired him to do my programming. I’m allowing myself to enjoy this till Thursday. That’s when my new training cycle begins.

Excellent performance, strong like bull, congrats!!!

Strong meet performance, and you just had to out-total me by 5 pounds ya jerk. ;-p I didn’t realize you were getting your programming from Adam. I’m only in my 5th week with him and it is obvious he knows exactly which levers to pull in order to boost your numbers.

Adam is the man, I gave him 4 months of my training journal and a few videos and he just delivered. Every week he tweaked things based on what he saw in my videos and performance. The guy knows his stuff and gets The best out of you
