That was all I had in me tonight…I’m getting used to the SSB and getting deeper. I’m done with wraps and just using knee sleeves. My goal is to lift in raw divisions and most don’t allow wraps anyway.

Running and tough mudder body weight training tomorrow…24 day left till mudder.

8 weeks out from meet now.

Pulled 455 a few times and overhead pressed 255 for a triple.

I’m going 5/3/1 for the home stretch then sticking with it for the rest of the calendar year.

Nice pulling and squatting! I haven’t ventured into band-land yet, it looks fun.

What does tough mudder training consist of?

I’m signed up for a “Dirty Girl” race in August. I think it’s like a super scaled back version of the mudder and muddy buddy, but should be a fun time.

I’m rotating Prowler sprints, hill running, and 5 mile runs on off days followed by pullups, burpees, dips on all conditioning days. I’m burning the candle at both ends right now and am looking forward to just getting on the other side of the mudder.

Got talked into sticking with my current template till meet is over in June. No sense in changing things up this close to the meet.

5 plate pulls and a 255 OHP triple,nice very nice.

Couldn’t sleep last night so decided to test my new wraps for speed and depth. Did 350 for 3 singles then deadlifted 505

My relationship with the bench press has been a tough one.

I always hated the bench press and when I was in my early 20’s decided I was done with it. My shoulders and wrists thanked me the day I gave it up. I started doing powerlifting competitions at 29 and just showed up to Dead lift each time.

20 yrs later, Oct 2011 I decided to give the bench another chance so I could do a full meet. I tested my bench…it was 275 paused at 190lbs. Since then I’ve worked it up to a 305 paused and 315 touch and go with a wide grip. That said, I’ve officially fallen in love with close grip tucked pressing and today hit a huge milestone of 285 paused close grip with mini bands. My goal is to bench over 315 paused at a raw meet.

Posted my Goals on G…might as well post here too.

Fitness Goals.
Writing them helps, broadcasting them keeps me accountable.

  1. Stay between 185 and 190lbs (currently 201.8)
  2. 450 lb squat (currently 415lb)
  3. 330lb bench press (current 315 touch and go)
  4. 560lb deadlift (currently 515. Pulled 550, 555, 565 @ 198 in 3 different meets but that was too long ago to count now)
  5. 275lb overhead press (currently 255x3 overhead press)
  6. hard conditioning 3 days a week consistently (prowler, hills, sprints, trail runs)
  7. compete in 3 meets and 2 extreme events over the next 12 months (tuff mudder this sunday, Meet June 3rd)
  8. stretch everyday

I’m closer to some of these goals than others and I believe achieving half if them will make the other half easier.

Tough Mudder is done. 12 miles of wet frozen fun. Back to being a powerlifter!

I find your bench story interesting. Looks like you have not only forged a truce with that lift but become friends. That’s cool. Meet is only a month off?
