Prof.X, You like Highlander?

Is there someone who doesn’t?

I never watched that tv show…and I thought a couple of those sequels were corny as all hell, but the original is still considered a classic at this point…and not just in a “cult following” sort of way like Hackers.
I thought I was the only one who like Highlander here. You know they’re making a video game. It doesn’t look bad.

Yeah. The TV show sucked donkey dick. And everything after The Quickening.

It goes to show, take a perfectly good idea, and fuck it to shit.

I just ate two double cheeseburgers.

First of all, the show was great!

It fucks up the entire storyline, but that’s why only one Highlander media is considered Canon. And that is the 1986 movie.

Support Highlander. Always support it.

“There can be only one”.

Sorry man, but I’m going to have to disagree with you about the TV show. My brother and I were HUGE Highlander fans, we even acted out some of the sword fight scenes in our backyard with wooden fence posts.

They took a perfectly good idea with the the Highlander movie, and totally ruined it with the TV show. And after The Quickening.

I know, there can only be one. But come on…

I also want to add that in addition to the two double cheeseburgers, I also ate a box of my nephew’s animal crackers. I forgot how delicious they are.

It tried to do way to much at once.

You can be funny, and stick a guys head up another guys ass.

But don’t turn around and try to make them into serious villains.

Half the movie had me rolling my eyes. 2 hours of Asshole!Super hero would have been SO much better…

Cranky much?

Highlander the series was good.

Highlander the 1986 movie is the best and the only true canon.

We can agree to disagree. But you should check out the Highlander anime movie. It was good.

Highlander ANIME? That sounds like blasphemy to me, I have never heard of any Highlander Anime.

Google it. Its not based on Connor or Duncan, but another immortal with the last name McCloud. Check it out.

Not really. It was bad. I saw the twist coming from a mile away, and the drama ruined all the comedy build up. Comedy/Drama hybrids are rarely good.

They advertised a comedy and gave us a semi-serious movie. Had they advertised it as a dramatic-hero film, I’d be less pissed, but equally as confused.

I just got back from seeing it. I enjoyed it. I think I might have liked it more had I not have built it up as much in my head.

In a way I feel bad for Hancock, because it’s already up against two other awesome superhero movies that I enjoyed more and we still have Batman in two weeks. That’s just kind of bad timing there.

Its already made 40 million. This has been the best year for movies.

I don’t mean in how much money it’s going to make. I’m sure it’s going to do really well. I mean in that it’s going to get compared to all the other superhero movies that have come out this summer. I have a feeling Hancock will only be considered the 4th best superhero movie by the end of the summer.

I saw this yesterday and enjoyed it. The fresh spin on the origins of superheroes was fun to see. I knew something was up between Mary and Hancock, but wasn’t 100% sure what. I thought maybe they had a short fling before she met Ray. I was sort of right, lol. Someone needs to sit M. Night Shamalamadingdong in front of this movie and tell him “THIS is how you pull off a plot twist!”

I just wish they used some of that creativity and a little more screen time towards developing a villian. Yeah the guy they had was evil and what not, but I barely knew him.

I doubt I’ll see it again in theaters, but I’ll probably wind up buying the DVD.

Spoiler x 2

I like how they did the villain angle. They used a regular criminal who just wanted him dead. I can also see them bringing “claw” back in a sequel since he didn’t die and now has TWO reasons to hate him.

You are right about the plot twist. Anything that can really catch you off guard today is a success, especially when the twist itself does not suck.
I liked the twist
it is a good thing when everyone in a packed theater starts walking out and then you hear
“hey wait wait wait” and everyone stands there blocking the doors to watch the ending after the credits.
there was alot of out loud laughs and “oh noes”

and i was surprised that the reviews were as poor as they were

That’s why you should rarely listen to reviews. Most ‘professional’ critics are totally out of touch. Be your own movie critic. That’s what I always say.

I avoid the critics now until I at least see it on my own. This movie did not suck. Had this shit come out by itself instead of in between the release of some of the most anticipated movies in decades, I am sure the response would be different.

what was funny though was at the end when dude called him an asshole everyone in the theater was all

“ohhhhhhhhhh shit”
just knowing what was bout to happen lol good times

oh and about the critics,Prof X
I doubt it would be different
in the 80’s the critics hated Ferris Beuler too and now look at it
cult classic the people loved it and still do

I wouldn’t go that far. I find the movies critics say are shit are nearly always good. Just do the opposite. I hope Batman gets shitty reviews.

I am so stoned right now.

I’ve found that Rotten Tomatoes does a pretty accurate scoring of films; if a movie gets a low rating, I’ll probably agree with how much it sucked. If it gets a good rating, it’s usually in line with my own sentiments.

Anyone else notice the shitty trend of movie trailers containing almost ALL the good scenes of a film, such that the movie itself leaves no surprises? That’s starting to piss me off.

The last Hulk movie had several of those scenes shown in trailers left out of the final movie. That was actually refreshing considering most of the time, the trailer contains nearly all of the good scenes. It means that dvd may be much more worth the money than others.
