Not sure if I had my expectations too high for the movie or not, but I was a little disappointed.
Everyone else in the theater seemed to like it though, so what do I know. Not a bad movie, and entertaining, I was just expecting a little more from such a cool premise.[/quote]
I think you’re just a cynical old man, Bauer. Life has made you indifferent to things. Its ok. We accept you as you are.

But you have to agree that it was entertaining and original. Since when has a premise such as this been explored? (I think you know what I mean.)

Cynical, perhaps.
I’m not sure my quarter-century on this planet qualifies me as “old” just yet, however. Or does it? I hope not. Then again, I DO really hate kids, and get increasingly annoyed when I see groups of teenagers… Fuck, I’m old.

Exactly my point.
While I do agree it was entertaining, I felt that the premise was so cool and original, that they could have done a lot more with the movie, that’s all.
I think I just got my hopes up a little high, which is something I try not to do with movies. I’m doing my best not to do it with “The Dark Knight” (which I just bought IMAX tickets for on the 18th!!!), but I’m not sure it’s working. Hopefully it won’t matter.

I see what you are saying, and I agree with you. They could have done a lot more. But for now, that’s what we got.
This was a good movie. It also had the best fight scene I’ve seen yet between two different “superheroes” in a movie. I don’t think this particular scenario had been told this way before so I give it credit for that.
It did feel a little rushed, but overall, I can’t hate this movie for not being Iron Man.
Damn, and I normally hate Will Smith. Will have to watch this one I guess.
Iron Man was the shit! Was always my fave comic book character and I hated that Spiderman got so much attention, was hoping they’d come out with an Iron Man flick and they did and it rocked. Good stuff.
I liked the movie, just too bad some moron tripped the fire alarm and I had to wait 45minutes to get back in the theatre to watch the rest. I think the first half was a little more enjoyable than the second half just my opinion. Anyone get the referance to another African American comic character? Perhaps Mr Smith is asking to be cast as a certain Marvel character in an upcoming film?

That 45 minutes would have taken away the pace of the movie so I can understand why you have that opinion. Honestly, the flight scenes were the best I’ve seen. That includes for Superman and for The Matrix sequels. You could tell when they switched from CGI to live action in The Matrix. It was almost seamless here. The story line was pretty damn original considering the only other time this had even been done in a movie might have been during Superman II when he turned into a darker version of himself. The funny scenes were really funny. The serious scenes were actually serious.
I think some of us have just become spoiled by CGI in movies lately. Some go to a movie expecting some ground breaking CGI when the truth is, the true milestones in that area only happen maybe once every ten years.
SPOILER:
This was like Highlander, Superman, and Luke Cage all rolled into one. The twist in the middle of the movie I damn sure didn’t see coming. I thought she just didn’t like him or was afraid of him.

See my feeling was they changed the movie halfway through, granted my experience was different than most, rotten kids, but it went from comedy to drama too fast for me.

I honestly thought she was a villian, with all the looks she was giving Smith. Anyway I was referring to the eagle/falcon hat and chain he had on as well as hat and the outfit he had on had the same symbol and at the end there was a falcon on the rooftop etc. I think kmaybe Mr Smith wants to play Sam “Flip” Wilson the Falcon

On that, all I can say is you may want to watch it again. A 45 minute wait would have had me asking for my money back and just seeing it again a different day. That can KILL the pace of a movie.
Spoiler:
I thought the falcon symbol was cool as hell (especially the scene at the end where he is sitting with one while on the phone). If they choose him for that, he would do it justice…but they might have to bring in Black Panther and Captain America first.
Black Panther is who makes him his wings, isn’t he?

I got a free ticket for another day so I’m happy I just have a little bit of agrophobia(I don’t like being around tons of people in the theatre it’s one thing but when everyone was outside I was getting antsy)

Yeah it was T’Challa who made the wings and harness for his flight, originally he wore a green outfit and had a hook thing he would use to swing around on and since he was trained by Cap he could kick ass as much as him. In fact up until recently he still used the hook to get height so he could glide now I believe he wears a harness that generates solid sound to fly(like Songbird/Screaming Mimi from the Thunderbolts)
I saw this yesterday and enjoyed it. The fresh spin on the origins of superheroes was fun to see. I knew something was up between Mary and Hancock, but wasn’t 100% sure what. I thought maybe they had a short fling before she met Ray. I was sort of right, lol. Someone needs to sit M. Night Shamalamadingdong in front of this movie and tell him “THIS is how you pull off a plot twist!”
I just wish they used some of that creativity and a little more screen time towards developing a villian. Yeah the guy they had was evil and what not, but I barely knew him.
I doubt I’ll see it again in theaters, but I’ll probably wind up buying the DVD.

I like how they did the villain angle. They used a regular criminal who just wanted him dead. I can also see them bringing “claw” back in a sequel since he didn’t die and now has TWO reasons to hate him.
You are right about the plot twist. Anything that can really catch you off guard today is a success, especially when the twist itself does not suck.

I never watched that tv show…and I thought a couple of those sequels were corny as all hell, but the original is still considered a classic at this point…and not just in a “cult following” sort of way like Hackers.
