Hammer Strength BP Weights

For those of you who use the Hammer Strength bench press, how do your weights compare to what you can do with a barbell?
I definitely notice a considerable difference.

My 1rm on Bench is 335, I but I usually shoot for 5 reps. My 5RM is 280.

Ive only done the lying flat HS bench a few times but I’m pretty certain my 5RM max was around 3pps + 25 which is about 330ish so 50lbs difference there.

The upright (ISO wide or some shit) one I routinely rep 4 pps side at the end of a workout. On good days I add a 25.

On decline, I have gotten 5pps per side for 5 reps in the past. The decline is the easiest of them all.

The incline is awkward for me and kills my shoulders. I don’t think built for people 6ft and over.

With the incline iso, it may just be a matter of the seat height. You have to have the seat set up so the handles are almost above your shoulders. The handles are on an angle so I make sure the place I grip them clears the top of my shoulders. I find its easy to use too much front delt but its great if you have a partner to press down on it during the negative portion to overload the eccentric. I can actually do more reps with the same weight if the eccentric is overloaded and I keep it under control. Im not sure why yet though
rocksolid12 wrote:
lol @ 3-5lb difference. Free weights are a lot harder, Id say if you do 3 plates for reps on bench youd be able to do 4-5 plates for reps on HS machines. No advanced bodybuilder relies only on HS machines. Look at the top pros, jay, phil, branch, coleman, levrone, all include free weight compound pressing moves either with barbells or dumbells. HS machines are a great addtion, but not a replacement.
Yeah, I can not imagine there are many people who only have that little of a difference between what they do on a Hammer piece compared to a bb lift. I remember when 350 on the incline with a cambered bar was my 1rm. At that same time I could easily rep out 4 plates a side on some Hammer incline press, with a 2 second pause in the stretched position. I remember doing 5 plates a side for 5 or 6 reps, and stopping as the weight was actually causing me wrist pain.

There are a lot of people with no pics who are all apparently pushing 5 plates a side on the hs machine.

LOL

I had a feeling you would say something like that. I can understand the request for pics if a person says they have an extremely well developed area and wants to tell others how to get similar results.
That was not the title of the thread though, or what it is about. It is about what people can do on a hammer press compared to what they can do with a bb. You don’t need pics for that. You need videos.
I like to follow the bodybuilding section and normally don’t post in threads relating to development, as I don’t have pics. I do feel comfortable posting when questions of strength are brought up. I noticed you scoffed at someone else earlier who said they do double the weight on a HS version of a lift. That person also has vids. I believe the earlier poster as well who said he had a considerable difference in his lifts when using Hammer equipment, and then you called him out on it.
So what exactly do you want from people?

I get called out at the drop of a hat if I say ANYTHING on this forum, so why are you crying because I noticed you have no pics?

No pics, no credibility, so you could have saved the comment.

My comment to YOU doesn’t have anything to do with anyone else.

I’m not crying about it. Simply stating fact. The thread relates to strength, even though it is in the BB forum. Strength requires videos. Think about that. You have VIDEOS of you doing Hammer strength presses. Do you really expect people to believe there is a only a small difference in what you do with a machine compared to a barbell. If so, you should be able to walk over and rep 405 on the flat bench.
L O L!!!
Let me guess, you can’t get a good spot, even though you admit you have a partner. Or wait, you don’t want to risk the injury… or you have nothing to prove, this is bodybuilding and you have pics…

? I hit 405 for the first time several years back when I was weighing about 225-230lbs. I haven’t even done a barbell press in at least 7 years so no, no one avoids an exercise for a decade and then jumps back into it doing whatever weight they left off at without retraining the mind and body to perform it again. That could take weeks or maybe even a month or two of regular training…so no, what you just wrote doesn’t make much sense.

Uh, who do you know my size who can’t lift about that much? Let me see, I get called out about my legs, my back and everything else…and I put it up. You are expecting people to believe you match what I usually see advanced lifters doing when you have no proof that you even lift seriously?

Post a pic of your current physical progress at least or accept that some dude with no proof they even lift should avoid claiming much of anything as far as their progress.

I mean, shit, aside from maybe austin, there are few on this forum who have put up as many pics of progress over the last ten years as I have so what are you talking about? I’ve had pics here from 210lbs to a couple months back.

You have NOTHING.

You can’t talk shit if you can’t back it up at all.

Deadlift: I’ll agree with you that videos are a better form of validating your opinions/knowledge in this case because it relates to strength more than size/development (even though the two are related)

So do you have any videos of you lifting to prove you know what you’re talking about when it comes to this subject? Just wondering

EDIT: I saw your post which said you have videos up… I’m on my phone now soni can’t see them.

I’ll accept that you would need time to acclimate to the lift again.

What do you mean I have nothing?
I have videos.
I stated very clearly earlier that I don’t chime in on discussions regarding development, as I don’t have pics. I’m in the middle between BB and PLing. I enjoy following both.
I would not waste my time calling you out in regards to development, you have pics.
This thread was about the correlation between the bb version of a lift and the Hammer version. That does not require pics.

What are your stats?

You have a vid of you repping what looks to be about 325.

I only have the videos in my hub. Those are actually quite old, now that I look at them again. I only posted the BP video when I decided to post in the 405 bench thread a while back and wanted some evidence I existed. Unfortunately my current gym does not have any hammer strength press machines.
If I had known I would be having this debate, I would have dragged my camcorder along with me today when I did a new pr.

405x1 or reps? Touch n go or PL style?

Reps. Touch n go. I got 330 for 8 with my new bench grip, which is inside shoulder width.

went in tonight to compare good ol’ free weight benching and the Hammmerzzz strength machine.

i worked up to 500lbs with a reverse grip on bench, here’s my video proof LOL.

then in a fatigued state i moved onto the Iso blaster (i added the blaster part) Hammmerzzzz strength bench press.

i started with 2plates a side for 10, then 3plates x 10, then 4plates for 10 and finished with 5plates x 10 that’s all it holds. it has a very weird starting position no matter where i put the seat. it also was extremly narrow. i had to wedge myself in. to actually get it started i had to stand up, put my hands on the grip and then sit down…very weird.

conclusion- that machine sucks…

Shit, that’s fancy…

lol

That’s bad-ass maraudermeat - BP’ing 500 with reversed grip! :stuck_out_tongue:

PS. I can push 4 plates a side for 5 good reps and my BP max is around 265 pounds
