Halo 2 - New Maps

Soooo… anyone else spend WAAAAY too much time yesterday playing Halo 2 because of all the new maps? Err, not that I did or anything like that… cause, ya know, I was like thumbing through my Kierkegaard books and… OK, so maybe I played for a little while. Absolutely love the new maps, especially Containment.

new maps…what is this about. what do you have to do to get them?

Dunno, Halo 2 was such a dissapointment that i’m just gonna sell my copy of it. They totally lost the formula from the original and changed the feel way too much. This is why it did not get game of the year or any other worthwhile placings this time around. There’s more to a good game IMO then just better graphics.

They sholud just have made 2 separate games. Halo 2 and the Arbiter. I really liked playing as the Arbiter. But every time you get used to playing as the Chief they switch to the Arbiter and vice versa. The player never gets used to the flow of any one character.

You’re kidding right? Halo 2 won several Game of the Year awards (XBox Nation comes readily to mind) and while I liked the campaign portion, I LOVE the Live portion. Seriously, if you did not play it on Live, you completely missed out on why this game is so good. It’s the gameplay itself that I love about it (although the excellent graphics certainly do not hurt). The Live interface for it is intuitive to use, you get great match-ups, a good feedback system (because there are some true punks on there, unfortunately).

miniross - Do you have XBox Live? If so, you can download the new maps there (even in the UK, I believe). Otherwise, if no XBox Live, there will be an expansion game disc coming out soon you can get in stores.

Yeah, I played yesterday for the first time in about two months… I had a hell of a time playing with my buds. I forsee this trend continuing for at least a few days…

I am, however, cheap, and only have the free maps.

Whoever thought it would be smart to add dual weilding should be slapped and put on the V-diet.

Seriously, it doesnt even matter that halo 2 didnt change that much, it added things it was missing such as xbox live and hijacking vehicles (man i kick ass at doing that) and the sword is the sickest thing ever. My only complaint is that the one new map is like an exact copy of wizard (i think that was the name) from the first one, it was a fun map and all but why not give us another brand new one instead of wasting time changing that one slightly. Still sick to have it though, whatever.

dude, dual wielding is savage. Yea, if you just dual wield two normal guns its retarded but if you throw down some combos like a charged plasma pistol in one hand and rifle in the other, you own people. Some other fun combos are dual human pistols, dual needlers to watch people explode, whatever. I guess I’m biased because almost every single day in our dorm like half our floor links up for 12 person halo 2, so playing with that many of your friends every day is sick (or linking up to the school network and owning those sucka punks on the 2nd floor haha).

Hey Kuz, do you play on the UConn network? Not like we’ll be at school much longer, but I also go to UConn. I’ll take you on sometime.

I love Halo 2. I spend entirely TOO MUCH time on it (umm, it’s great for aiding recovery?).

The auto update rocked. The new maps are awesome.

Friend me.

Hooking up multiple XBoxes to play with your buddies in a LAN party style game is the best. I do game night at my apartment every few weeks and always a good time had by all.

In terms of new maps, I like Containment a lot since it is pretty massive and you can even get some Scorpions rocking in that one. Turf I like as well because the tight streets and corners make for some interesting close range fights. Warlock is good, but so damn dark. I cannot tell who the hell is on my team half the time. Sanctuary is very cool too. The little water pools add a nice touch since you can hear people coming through them.

Laxxone, I play on Live! so maybe you are playing Halo on the UConn network? I went to the law school, actually, but still live in here in the grand ol’ Nutmeg state. Do you guys play at all on live?

My buddies and I do this pretty much every Thursday night. 3 XBoxes, 3 TVs, 4-5 guys. Most of us have GT’s so we all connect to Live through my router. Team stuff is incredible when you’re all in the same room together.

Kuz

your a gem

cheers matey.

Xbox nation giving halo 2 an award is them giving themselves an award, LOL!
Halo 2 has some improvements but overall they lost alot of the core players as the feel of the game changed too much. Halo was for adults, Halo 2 is for kids with ADHD, but if you like it it’s all that matters.

Kuz, I’ll be on Live this summer, I’m gonna use my free subscription. I can’t afford $80 a year, or whatever it is. You know how it is, broke college kid and all. But this summer when I use my free trial I’ll PM you and I’ll take you out.

LOL!!! OK, but in all fairness, XBox Nation is an independent magazine. Now if it was The Official XBox Magazine, that would be pretty funny (hmm, I bet they did give Halo 2 game of the year though. lol) I honestly like Halo 2 better because of multiplayer. The campaign part was good, but not great and it does leave you hanging. I get the distinct feeling it will not be completed until the next version of Halo comes out for XBox 2.

On a separate note, general Halo 2 question. Anyone else have some tips as to how to get better with the sniper rifle? I tell ya, some people are like the angel of death with that thing… but I am NOT one of them. It’s frustrating to be running around and WHAP! 1 shot kills. It’s a bit much.

You have to find the right spot to aim. Slightly ahead of the direction in which the target is heading, so they run into the projectile. You really just have to feel it out and NOT aim at the target itself, unless they’re standing still.

OK, I’ll give it a whirl. I am just amazed at the guys who nail me the split second my head comes around a corner or looks over a ledge. Bastards. lol

god i wish halo CE was on xbox live. CUZ I OWN ALL!!!

halo 2 deserves an “eh.”

I don’t mean to hijack this thread but since we are on the subject of gaming. I just seen that UBISOFT will giving a sneak preview of The Prince of Persia 3 at the E3 Expo. From what I seen at the website it may be similar to Fable where you can choose the path of good or evil and your fighting capabilities will be even better. I cannot wait for this to be released, I thought it’s predecessors were kick ass.
