Gyms in London, ON

I’ll likely be moving to London in September for graduate studies and was wondering where the best place to train is, anyone from the area?

Thanks.

Where in London are you studying?

You’ve got the regular chains like Fitness First and LA Fitness. Then you’ve got your elite gyms like Holmes Place.

They’ve got a selection of some of the central london gyms.

I’ve been in GymBox in Holborn and looks impressive. If you are North London way you have Muscle Limits. It’s a hardcore gym but a superb atmosphere.

  1. London is large and hard to get around inso give us a rough idea of where you will be, this will help.

  2. Also what type of training are you doing, there isn’t a lot of Oly here for example.

One to mention (it’s mainly b/building but hardcore) is Muscleworks Bethnal Green (east end). Haven’t been there in a few years but Sav the owner is the boy.

www.muscletalk.co.uk is a pretty h/core UK forum, you might want to ask there as well.

On a side note, I have looked at the Gymbox site and I’ll tell you this… it seems to be my idea of a f*%kin nightmare!

Depends where in London. Heard there is a good powerlifting/olympic lifting gym in Crystal Palace…

Personally, I go to Fitness First in Brixton. FF is not great, but it has everything I need, though people look at me funny when I do power cleans, front squats, etc

I’m also moving to London next year, and was planning to ask if there were any good gyms, this one looks fine. But I can’t see a power rack anywhere. But better than nothing until I setup my own gym.

You mean London ON, Canada? Right?

ha! Now he see’s it!

Pretty sure he means London, Ontario.

But as for gyms in the real London, any in the Teddington/Twickenham area that was worth looking into?

I was wondering how many people were gonna post before somebody realized he meant London, ONTARIO, CANADA.

That London is fake … I’ll never acknowledge it … NEVER GOD DAMN IT!

I’m assuming you’ll be at western or fanshawe, I hear that the campus gyms are pretty decent.

I’m going to be studying at UWO in LONDON ONTARIO,CANADA so I’ll be in that area, I haven’t actually found a place to live yet but it will likely be in walking area of the campus. Guess I wasn’t thinking when I wrote my original post…

Some things that I want/want to do in the gym:

*A squat or power rack
*A decent setup for benching
*A place that I can do deadlifts without being bothered
*A place where I can do cleans/Jerk and allow a controlled drop, although I don’t care if I have bumpers or not
*I want to be able to use chalk without being bothered

Thanks.

Hey… Drewsky from MT??? Nobody forgets that avatar…

My God you yanks think there isn’t a world out there that isn’t attached to the american continent

When I hear London I think of the major city in the major country, England

When I see ON I think of the suburb postcode in London (which I now notice does not exist)

Nevertheless, good links for me!

Hahaha, my mate trains there. He hates it. Too busy, and full of brixton rudeboys with attitude (he sez, but then he is a poncey lawyer, lol).[/quote]

Hahahaha - It’s very true. I am a regular there now so I always manage to find my space which is good. In terms of rudebuoys with attitude, that’s also spot on :)…

That’s why we invented rudeboy tipping! They all seem to be top heavy, so you need to wait outside the gym and when they walk out you tip them over. Now because of the chicken legs and the weight on the top they won’t be able to get up. The challenge is to leg it before they shoot you!!

The Western Gym should meet all your requirements but if it is too busy or you just want to try something else here are my suggestions:

Galleria Goodlife-closest commercial gym to UWO can be too busy at times, total meat market (i.e. difficult to concentrate)
Sherwood Park Goodlife- Can be a far drive/bike/walk/bus trip or however else you’d get there but as far as commercial gyms it’s the best you get.
There are two private gyms that are pretty far away but if you have a car or don’t mind long bus trips its worth looking at.
Definitions on Wharncliffe:-cheap rates(no initiation fees) quiet, can do whatever you want. Con:Crappy hours

Ultimate Workout Centre on Exeter road:- good hours, massive facility, everything you want, can do anything there. Not sure about prices. Probably the best private gym I’ve seen. Mostly quiet. Good environment too-many local sports teams train here.

Enjoy!
Good to have a fellow t-magger in London, Ontario
