Gym Threatens to Remove Heavy Wts

Dude, I would love to hear where these “real gyms” are in CT. lol

Hi all,

I thought this might be something that you guys would aprpeciate.

I recently went to train with my mate at his gym, not too far from my own, and as we were training chest I told him that it was time to crack out the 65kg dumbells for flat bench. So in our usual fashion (and maybe a little more so because its a rare treat to train with eachother) we psyched eachother up and there was bit of yelling, nothing that anyone could find offensive though.

Two days after the session my mate rings me to tell me that the gym is threatening to take the 65kg dumbells because they’ve had complaints about him yelling when he uses them.

I wonder how this sounds to the rest of the heavy lifters on this site…

Start yelling when you use the light weights as well, that should really confuse them as it sounds like they aren’t too bright anyway.
Then they would just throw you out. I think they are bright enough to realize at that point the guy is just being an ass and screaming on every weight just to piss people off.

cap’nsalty was right.

If you’re yelling at each other it’s not just pissing off the patrons who are using the fluffy pink dumbbells, but also the serious ifters who don’t want to be associated with a couple of dickheads.

If you’re groaning and grunting, that’s fine if commensurate to the effort. If you’re yelling to psyche up then you’re an embarrassment to us all. Train at home instead … But then there’d be no one to watch you, and that’s the main point, isn’t it?

Just to clarify to you guys, by yelling I mean “come on baby, frank (a mutual person we both hate) could lift it” in a loud enough voice so he hears only it and not the Britney Spears playing in the background, then he falls back onto the bench and does the weight with some exertion grunts. Gets back up and I usually say “good set” and shake his hand in a normal voice…if thats too much then the world is f**ked up

Maybe they want to kick you out because you call him “baby”?

I think they’re homophobes and you should complain about that.

OK, OK, I know what you meant.

But if by “yelling” you really meant “talking” then they’re out of line; however, your first post did not give that impression. You wrote yelling which is why the tide of the posts turned and you got slapped.

I’d like to set this straight for all you T-Nation knuckleheads. The Matrix as you know it is a complete and utter fraud. Stolen from a real gem of a movie, the Matrix was used as early as THE TRANSFORMERS MOVIE if not even earlier.

Just wanted to clarify.

…Robots In Disguise.

I cried the first time that i watched the transformers movie.
I assume you are meaning the death of Optimus Prime. I tear up more during that scene than in Rudy at any one point. Why OPTIMUS PRIME?!?!?

At least the DinoBots saved the day (more or less).

If that was it you should have told us from the beginning. Also if that is so where on earth are you working out? I can’t imagine a gym on the planet that would not allow some talk and comraderie from their members. This is beginning to seem a little far fetched to me. Even from my pansy ass gym managers standpoint.

Are you talking about the Matrix of Leadership? If so, what does that have to do with the Matrix movie? Or if you’re talking about one guy (or robot) being the one, hasn’t that been in tons of movies/books/fairy tales since the beginning of time?

Also, gym complainers are dicks, commercial gym managers are dicks, you need a basement or a university gym membership.

I don’t care how heavy the weight is…but please BE QUIET! Don’t make any noise when you are lifting…it’s not necessary.

No one said it should be as quiet and peaceful as a library, and no one said everyone should be on ellipticals and machines.

Fact of the matter is yelling, grunting and screaming is more of an ego stroke than anything. It generally comes from those that are sub-200lbs and it makes them look like assholes.

He said he was being loud enough to block out the music. That may not be all that loud, but it’s certainly well above a normal speaking voice, and probably loud enough to offend the more delicate gym patrons.

Sounds to me like they’ll have a room for people to hang out in and socialize, rather than having a gym, if they remove the heavy weights.

(I’m stepping on my soapbox again…)

That’s like a Restaurant saying it’s going to remove all the entrees because one person belched too loudly, thereby terribly offending people…GASP! Same goes for Dogdgeball being removed from schools because of the kids being tapped by the ball being too painful/dangerous for the kids…GASP! GASP!

Sheesh. Why doesn’t everyone just go live in a glass bubble, if little minor daily normal things are too much for them to cope with?

Goes to show you, society is more and more raising it’s people to be whimpering weaklings who are unable to cope with anything. What happens if and when someone is faced with actual, real problems? Will this mean the end of the world?

You need to either :

 1. find a new gym
 2. buy equipment for your own gym
3. break in, steal everything of value, then burn that motherfucker down

Then stay the fuck out of my gym. If I am getting crushed underneath a 5 plate squat, a 1500 lb leg press or some 140’s, you will hear some grunting and slamming of weight. I dont care what the research says about noise while lifting and I dont care if its only in my mind. I dont grunt for attention and I try to be mindful of others but sometimes it just comes out. I even started doing my heaviest lifting during off hours to be considerate. And I am not sub 200 so I dare any pansy ass to come complain to me about it. This aint no fucking library. Have you ever seen Ronnie lift?

AA-

You are an exception.

At most of the gyms I frequent 165lb, 16yr olds curling 25lb dumbbells, wearing wife beaters from Kids R’ Us, hitting each other in the chest to psych each other up for a set of curls seems to be the rule.

Glastonbury. I know of South Side down in Stratford (Cressey works out there and I have been meaning to hit him up for a workout with those nuts), but not much else outside of that, at least in the Hartford area…

No, I haven’t seen Ronnie lift. I guess you mean Ronnie Coleman.
Anyway, since I cannot squat 5 plates and press 1500 lbs. then I suppose I was wrong and I must apologize.
