Gym In College?

  sup guys im starting school this January and they actually got a "fitness room" right at the rez I was placed at.

Fitness Room

* tread mills
* stationary bike
* step machines
* weight machines
* free weights
* mats
* televisions

Im really excited and all that, and kinda trying to plan everything ahead, including nutrition(gonna need a minifridge definately even though a meal plan is mandatory). Anyway what can I expect ? Lack of squat rack, nazi “health and safety” regulations, getting yelled at for doing deadlifts and overhead presses ? Especially since its not a “bad-ass” school by any means, it has a rep for being nerdy(focused on math/compscience/eng).

as far as i know, at UW there are two gyms. the PAC and the CIF. the CIF is for skinny frat kids and bunnies, the PAC is where you should go. im pretty sure they have power racks and even maybe an Oly platform as well at dumbbells up to 120lbs, and the attitude at the PAC is fairly serious (not hardcore but not planet fatness)

oly platform ? lol that sounds sick. Can a regular guy whos not enrolled in their athletics just come in and start cleaning and snatching ?

By free weights they probably mean 5 pound pink dumb bells. My college said they had a fitness room too and that ended up being a treadmill and a 200 year old home gym system. Good thing we have a brand new state of the art sports center that opened this year.

as long as you have a pull up bar, a bench, and dumbbells, it should suffice. they should have at least a barbell. you should be alright. good luck.

oh yea, and i doubt they’ll scold you for doing deads

YEA! i started there in september,
anyway, don’t bother with the CIF… the PAC is awesome/hot/smelly/dank, and they have everything,

but… you’re talking about the one right in REV, which i usually go to.

They do have a squat rack-ish thing, a few good bars and enough plates, but there’s usually nobody in there so its pretty sweet. Only problem is that the dumbells don’t go very heavy.

College I go to, ASU, they require you to use clips on everything, can’t take a water bottle with you to your bench (which is friggin annoying) gotta leave it over to the side of the weight room within a short distance… but still annoying.

Also, with any gym, but more so at schools-- be very clean, wipe your benches and what not down with a disenfectant (if available). MRSA is abundent… look it up, if you’ve never heard of it. It is something to be aware of before starting. Good luck in school.

Dont go to Clemson.

thx guys my hope in the humanity has been restored. im so looking forward to it lol. starting college in 20s is stressful is hell -_-
