Guns

I have fired many weapons but my heart belongs to my M-16 A2. “I could put a round down a fleas ass from 500 meters…” But many active and former Marines will say the same thing. I agree that your chioce of weapon must extend past the fact that “it looks cool,” as someone refered to. When choosing a weapon it must be one that is comfortable and easy for you to work with. You may have an inceredible point target range with the most effective ammunition for your circumstance - but if you can not control it, it is useless. The weapon is only as good as its shooter.

I’ve checked out some handgun manufacturers websites, and I’ve seen the “compensated” arms. Seems like a cool concept (which I have no experience with, and never even knew about). Anybody out there have any experience with these? What are your impressions?

Uncompensated handguns are already violent
enough on unprotected ears – and the
ears will be unprotected in actual self-defense
use if you have to fire. Compensated is
even worse. That’s why I won’t use them.

Also in darkness your night vision may
be more impaired from muzzle flash.

I don’t think muzzle jump or recoil is
much of an issue in self-defense shootings
anyway, with cartridges commonly used. (It is an issue in Olympic shooting
or IPSC.)

Flinch from ANTICIPATING
recoil can be a real problem for any kind
of shooting but if you have that problem
I don’t know if typical compensators would cure
it.

I have several pistols:
Heckler and Koch USP compact in .357 SIG
Kimber Custom in .45 ACP
EAA Witness in 10mm
Rossi snubnose in .357 Mag
.45 Long Colt with a 4" Barrel

I also owned a Heckler and Kock USP compact in .40 cal at one time.

It seem that a Lot of T-Men and T-women have guns. I myself own several. But these days they are at home in my gun safe, while I am on the road.
As the former Officer-in-Charge of the Marksmanship Training Unit (for fun see this months Men’s Journal’s article on the making of an Army Sniper) I was wondering what kind of training most of you have taken? Do you shoot competitively?
Old Joke: Sure, I believe that gun control is being able to hit your target. Best of Luck.

Kimber custom stainless in 45 ACP, Ruger sp101 snubby in .357 both capable of one-shot stops in my hand.

Whatever you decide to do, PLEASE use a trigger lock and/or gun safe. With kids in the house, it’s an absolute necessity.

But aside from that, as Brider said, a good alarm system could work great also. Or even a dog, for that matter.

…any chance that was MTU Eva Beach?

Hey Older Lifter, I thought gun control was using both hands. Demo, what year is your Enfield .303?

ruger 10-22, ruger mini-14, remington 870 wingmaster 20 gauge, browning bps 12 gauge, lugar p38(still in the holster with the swastika(sp) on it and the belt buckle), colt .357, an older than shit double barrel muzzel loader shotgun(very early 1900’s), and of course my baby…H&K compact .45ACP

The MTU was the one at Fort Campbell, KY. I was charges with regional training for 37,000 soldier in all aspects of weapons training and maintenance. Best of Luck.

If I count correctly, it looks like there are 3 of us 10MM owners on this thread, not bad for a “dead round”

10MM… when you care enough to send the very best.

as far as handgun stoping power goes, a Desert Eagle in 50AE is rather impressive if you have the wrists for it.

I’m kinda’ like DA MAN. Between my father, brother and I, we DO own everything under the sun. My uncle owns a gunshop so we always get great deals, and my grandfather on both sides of the family left us a great start to our collection which currently stands at 182. 70 pistols, the other 112 are a combination of rifles, shotguns, assault rifles, and many oddball things. My favorite has always been assault rifles. My father loves large caliber pistols. (Revolvers mostly.) My favorite rifle is my custom built AR15 I use for competition shooting. It has many mods and the heavy barrel makes it real flashy as well. (Get lots of oohs and aahs when I pull it out.) My favorite pistol is my Kimber classic competition model .45acp I use it for pin shoots. And actually, last week I got a small snub nose .38, hammerless revolver (S&W) for my fiance to carry off duty. She is a rookie police officer. Oh yeah, I love all the H&K’s, Ak47 full auto with the 100 round drum (damn close to DA MAN’s mak 90,) and my full auto mack 10. (We have stamps for all of our full auto’s, it’s nice have both gun dealers, and law enforcement officers in one family.)
