I guess you don’t just leave it in the rifle rack in your pickup like I do.

And from what I understand, I can buy 3 or 4 different kits (not that I would) and all the parts will fit together as long as I have a common gas length system right? I ask because I’ll be getting a barrel separate from the kit (or complete upper) and swapping it out.
Theoretically. I would just go get a Windham kit (my persona favorite) or one of the higher end kits, just in case.
Windham is the old bushmaster correct?

I had them on my short list, but haven’t gotten to brand yet. Still working out “is this shit going to get me arrested”. Then it is on to “hey son, what do you want it to look like?”. Then we’ll get to brands, lol.

Cable lock or pad lock through chamber, in locked case, locked in trunk. Unloaded obvi.

Cable lock isn’t part of the law, but I figure, fuck it. I’m not looking to get messed with here.

Kind of. It’s the old owners of Bushmaster that re-started when their non-competes ran out. Better product than Bushmaster ever was.

I have a CDI that I really enjoy and have killed 20+ coyotes with:

I haven’t had much luck finding a 5.56, 1:7, 16+" barrel without threads… Plus that means assembling the entire upper rather than buying one pre-built. Which might be over my head, lol.
Look for a Bull barrel or Target barrel. Fluting is nice, a recessed crown is also a good idea.
I’d give a thumbs down to heavy barrels on an AR. I had one and sold it. Makes the rifle much too heavy, unbalanced, and way less handy.

If you get an 18-20" barrel, and get the Black Hills 77gr match ammo, you may have a chance of stretching out to 600 yards.

I put a build together with a black hole weaponry barrel. Call them and they will make you what you want without threads. You may have to wait a couple months to get it though.

Ranier arms also has a large selection of high quality barrels. Check their website and see what they can do without threads.

Screwing an upper together is easy. There’s tutorials all over youtube. You’ll spend a bit on some tools, but otherwise, it’s pretty straightforward.

Well, after the Son’s comes the Wife’s, the little Brother’s (long story), Daughter’s and Mine once I’m in NH, lol.

Says the guy who thought a bolt gun was too expensive. You are going to double that cost by the time you have it setup the way you like.

Get a Geissele trigger up front. It’s worth it, especially if you are going to do a longer barrel SPR setup. You’ll have two guns in one and it will be plenty accurate for any precision work you want to do.

lol, yes, however, 1200 spread out over 12 months is different than $700 upfront and more for the optic.

For anyone looking to discuss the politics of our rights in a hypothetical situation that might not go in that subforum.

Shit, really meant to post this here.

My brother turns 21 in about a month and I wanted to put him on the path of gunslinging righteousness. Anyways he will be gifted this and a glock 17 I am thinking. Any other suggestions?

First off I want you as my older brother. Second, has he shot a lot before? Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t glocks lacking in safety features? Obviously not an issue if he’s experienced, but just food for thought.

Haha, yes he has shot quite a bit. He always gravitates towards my glocks when we shoot. I go to the range about once a month, usually, and always invite him and my other brother along as well.

And correct glocks don’t have any type of conventional safety.

Ah I see. Seems like he would want a semi auto polymer pistol as opposed to a revolver. I’m making that assumption cause he gravitates towards your glock. On the rifle side of things I think a smith and Wesson m&p 15 would be dope. Only .22 but cheap to shoot and supposed to be a blast. I think the coolest gift would be a ruger 10/22. Once again only .22 but it shoots great and turning him onto all the customization options for it would be really exciting and fun. Atleast for me. The archangel conversion kit is absolutely great. I can think more on it but from a practicality but still awesome factor those are my suggestions.

My first gun was a Glock 19. I think any Glock in 9mm is a fine beginner handgun for someone who is not a dumbass. A safety does not make a gun safe, the operator does.

For the accident prone and careless firearms enthusiasts I recommend anything that can stop them from discharging a weapon, such as a safety lever or just not owning or using weaponry.

That is a pretty great older brother move, Bauber.

If you are set on a Glock for him, I would give a G19 consideration if your brother would be thinking about CC’ing. I think it hits a sweet spot of concealability, light weight and firepower. If CC duty is not needed, G17 would get the nod from me.

He is a lucky little bastard.

Mags, ammo, holster, mag carrier, and a sling.

You are very generous. I regifted an old Ruger P89 to my brother for Christmas one year that our dad originally gave me after I picked up something else. Neither were very happy with me.

The M&P 15 comes in 556. They have a number of different models you can choose from.

Even better. In all honestly I’m a big fan of .22 just cause it’s so cheap to shoot. I enjoy shooting a .45 or 9mm the most, but you really can’t go wrong with .22
