This is an awesome picture- totally badass. I remember you put it up once before.

Cant say that im a huge fan of the .380 but, some people like it i guess.
I really like .380ās. They are actually a lot of fun to shoot and I am a ābig caliberā kind of guy. The .380ās are actually my wifeās guns, but I love to shoot them and I donāt give a shit if the handle is pink.
So she likes pink.
People criticize them as a defense round, but I beg to differ. I damn sure wouldnāt want to be hit with one.
This is true. I have read articles from a few folks and spoken to two people personally, one was my old boss, who have been shot. They didnāt give a fuck what caliber it was. All they cared about was NOT getting hit again, and stopping the bleeding.
However, Since the discussion is on the.380ās defensive effectiveness, I would state that the .380 is generally NOT accepted as a primary defensive caliber weapon. A .380 round is essentially a 9mm short, which is underpowered. Most .380 bullets do not meet the FBIās recommended minimum penetration depth of 12"-18". In addition to the aforementioned details, most .380 weapons are fucking tiny. Tiny guns are quite difficult to hit targets with any consistency due to their short barrel lengths and the muzzle flip. As with ALL handgun calibers, shot placement and follow up shots are required to STOP a fight. This is especially true if your assailant(s) are hopped up on adrenaline and some kind of drug. MOST .380 have pitiful magazine capacities also. Most people end up putting a magazine extension on the weapon to fit their hand. Now they have a 9mm sized grip and a snub nosed pistol that canāt hit shit outside of 5ā. Why not just get a 9mm. The weapon isnāt that much larger, has on average of twice the mag capacity and the slightly larger pistol will help with recoil impulse and allow better followup shots.
But you say, Dawg, I or my girl have small hands⦠so does my wife. She carries a Glock 19. My 8 year old son also can shoot the fuck out of my G19 and my full sized G17. You / she needs training my friend.
If you have a .380, use what you got. If you are serious about ādefensive weaponsā a proper fighting pistol is recommended. If home defense is your scenario you would be hard pressed to beat a 20 gauge youth model pump action shotgun running OO Buck. Either way, get a weapon light on that thing!

Come and go shooting with me, Brick.
From 30 - 40 ft. walking forward. First go-round. Two rounds off the paper and two more out of the kill zone. That leaves 10 in center mass.
Sweet! next time create some angles between you and the target. Odds are in a gunfight you will NEVER walk towards the guy. That is unless you want to just trade bullets ![]()
If you want some real fun, get some dummy rounds in your mag. Youāll get some great practise doing a ātap, rack bangā drill.
take a force on force class! Itāll get all the ābroscienceā bullshit out of your head real quick!
right, didnāt mean to sound like I was giving you shit on that video. Just suggesting stuff you could do since you obviously arenāt in a āboxā gun range. You can have tons of fun in that spot.
Iāll see about some videos on that.
Basically get 2 magazines and load with random numbers of rounds. Say your mags hold 15. Load one with 6, the other with 11. shuffle them around. Not knowing what mag has what. Youāll have to do a tac reload.
Same mags, put in real bullets, then a dummy, few more real bullets, then a dummy. Same for both mags. Just make it random a s possible. Shuffle the mags and run your drill.
Pretend you got shot in the hand. VERY COMMON, then try to reload with one hand. FUN. Shoot one handed, weak hand. whatever.

@ push that SWSD 40 seems like a great gun for the price. Any issues? Failures?

Yeah so many more options when you live in a state with some freedom. Can setup multiple targets aswell. Put some behind cover with just the head sticking out. Get some cover for yourself. Weapon transitions. The possibilities are endless. So much fun to be had. A few places I can do some of that stuff but itās a drive. WELL worth it though.

Thatās kinda what sucks about most ranges, and Iām half glad considering the some of the dumb ass moves Iāve seen people pull at a public range I go to often. Shooting bays, steel targets, and anything where you can shoot and move and run drills is where the fun/learning is at, like this:
I started shooting IDPA and USPSA once each per month to keep things exciting. Thereās only so much stuff you can do on a square range before it starts to get stale.

50 meters?! I bet most guys couldnāt be that accurate with iron sights off hand with a rifle.

It is. It has performed flawlessly. Several hundred rounds through it so far. I recommend it highly.
I had to adjust to the double action trigger cuz Iāve pretty much been a 1911 shooter for years but once I did adjust for the long pull I got to liking it a bunch.
The only issue for me is tugging on the two itty bitty release tabs to field strip it. I have a very tough time. Drives me nuts.
Wish it had an adjustable rear sight like the new Ruger SR40. It shoots low with all ammo, about 2 - 3 inches.
I see Hornady makes a hot little 155 gr cartridge that moves the bullet at 1152 fps with 457 ft-lbs of muzzle energy that I have yet to try.
Good to hear thanks. Iāll be picking one up before long. Or wait a bit ang get the M&Pā¦

Agreed, would add a fun new element to this thread.
