Some deload meme deadlifts today. 5x1 @ 220kg.

Have my initial assessment with Melbourne Strength Culture on Saturday and we’ll go from there.

So is this an in-person coaching you’re going for? That’s pretty exciting. Not only as an athlete but also from a professional point of view in my case. Keep us posted, if you feel like it.

Just the initial assessment is in person then programming via spreadsheet constant feedback/adjustment via WhatsApp and other social media with check ins often. Pretty standard for online coaching these days but clients can get a lot out of it.

I’m coaching a guy thru a similar blended method. This weekend Ima meet up with him after my initial assessment to coach him thru testing his maxes

Ah okay so pretty standard stuff. I’m still interested to hear about the assessments. There are so many ways this can be done and it’s always interesting to see how other coaches approach this.

Hmm see how someone moves and suss out a program in collaboration I guess

Finished up the block with me client today with a max test. 140/80/180kg SBD for 50kg PB on the total. Exceeded my expectations. Will look to do even better in our next block together

It’s fun coaching. Rewarding experience

Strong coaching gainz!

I can’t keep up with you in powerlifting. Maybe we should race representatively through our young apprentices we are coaching.

First day of programming for my new coach, Melbourne Strength Culture. First block at a glance nothing super extraordinary or surprising. Effective stuff seldom is I guess.

Something a bit different is the inclusion of “reaching movements” that move the scapula thru ranges that are seldom moved in for powerlifting purposes where it his scapula is usually depressed and or retracted for the most part.

SBD day today: Hit comp squat 160kg x 6 @ 6-7 RPE, close grip bench 3x8 @ 6 RPE and pause deadlift 3x4 @ 7 RPE. Didn’t feel amazing today due to random BJJ sesh yesterday but hit some numbers that are not far off my best.

Need a bit more practice with rating RPEs because I’ve mostly been using RPE ranges so far like <6 or 6-8 so hitting more accurate RPEs is a skill that needs developing.

You got this strong using these RPE? So Greg Doucette was wrong…

Greg’s got the principle right… overload. Train harder than last time mantra, taken literally, doesn’t work very long until u hit a wall. RPE is one tool/way to go about it. For having a powerlifting background dude is spewing some bullshit

Hi all. Few days to catch up on here with some stuff that has gone down over the last week of the year.

So big thing is I flared up my back something fierce late last week. Whole lower back was spasming and that was pretty scary and depressing when I was thinking about what that could mean for the future. There’s a lot of emotional baggage and trauma there apparently. Made Christmas things a bit less fun

Maxed out NSAIDs, paracetamol and hot baths as well as doing other stuff like walking and managed to bring down the symptoms enough to actually be able to test where I was at, whether that meant no squats/Deads or was fine to push ahead.

Hit SBD today and fortunately seems like I can still lift. Back still feels off but training itself doesn’t increase pain/symptoms. I think last week it was the acute increase in training workload that flared up my back so me and coach will go conservative on volume for now to fully clear the back and then try building up a bit.

PBs from today 165kg x 6 squat and 240kg x 4 pause deadlift.

Sounds like you need a complete rest lol… or a chiropractor perhaps?

Chiro… yuck

Going with the hypothesis that it’s work load / fatigue management related should be able to still train this week and get a net decrease in symptoms because it’s already going that way. It improvements in symptoms stalls or it gets worse then we’ll adjust from there.

Speaking of Christmas things haven’t posted a steak in a while so here’s a beautiful wagyu steak that was leftover from Christmas.

Wasn’t a life changing experience like YouTube would lead you to believe but was definitely amazing in many ways. I think this is the highest grade of Australian wagyu so next stop Japan I guess

Lol why the hate? I’m not totally for it, but it works really well for some.

Manips are temporary symptom relief at best. Dems is but one tool and not particularly good one, is far from recommended best practice for most peeps, within the tool box for managing back pain symptoms with limited utility across the whole process of treating LBP. Walking on the other hand is free and is highly beneficial in a multitude of ways across all stages rehab + negligible associated risks.

Best case… sure a chiro who knows how to apply the rest of the things will do well for their patients but that’s not because of the manips or much to do with the practice/principles of chiropractic medicine.

Often enough chiros create dependency in working with patients as opposed to empowering patients to self manage, frequent symptom management sessions but not really working towards full recovery.
