Lol it was there without going too crazy so y not.
Is gold giving you the option to rep out sets? or are you just freestyling it?
Yeah I stick multiple sets of three or four into one set if I’m reasonably certain I can hit it.
The deadlifts were beautiful. I’m mirin’
Felt pretty shit today actually but thnx. Do strongmen ever pull sumo as a variation. There’s a bunch of events it’d carry over into
I’m sure some do. @strongmanvinny2 for example did a lot of sumo pulling in the past.
Kalle Beck and a couple of other reputable characters made an argument for sumo deadlifts as a strongman.
I pulled sumo exclusively in the past and when I started out (because conv. Wasn’t working at the time for my back). Looking back I don’t think I ever REALLY pulled sumo, I just had a wide stance.
In general in strongman you have to have so many skills and train different movements, that I could imagine people find it difficult to fit sumo in. Then also a lot strongman will lack that specific skill and mobility to properly do sumo deadlifts.
Yeah lots of considerations there. Sumo so strongman wouldn’t be for max cheating like powerlifting anyways I assume so a slightly wider stance and decent mechanics would do the job
Yeah pretty much. People like Thor wouldn’t suddenly come out and deadlift even more if they were allowed to do sumo.
I think the ‘no sumo’ rule isn’t only in place to keep strongman more raw or brute strength based or however you want to phrase that, but also because a lot of pulls are from height. That looks kinda stupid if sumo is allowed. Then there are car deadlifts and side handle bar deadlifts, were sumo wouldn’t be possible anyway.
That’s my understanding that it could turn some deadlift events into near 0 RM pulls if they counted/allowed sumo.
I’ve heard generalisation that tall long limbs peeps do well with sumo so who knows maybe Thor isn’t even near his final deadlift form yet. He’ll save it for breaking the ATWR total.
BusinessPig
Did some business today just before I hunker down for the biggest assignment yet
Sold my old barbell and bought some extra weights which I then rented off to offset the cost of buying em. Ended up at 4 bucks a kilo for the weights and able to help out some mates in need of gains while putting little pieces of the future home gym together.
Arranged to sell my Australian Barbell Co Power Bar for $400 when the StrongArm Sport Power Bar arrives soon. Recouping most of the cost of that.
So it’s a loss but not a big one considering I’ll have sold off all the stuff I’ve upgraded from and have surplus of for a decent price and I come out with sexier barbells and extra plates.
Just waiting to fulfill the last few transactions then will wait to see if any deals pop up as the equipment market crashes on the back end of Covid
Just fucked around today because didn’t have a rack. Muddy workout lol consisting of bench, overhead press, bent over row.
Pushed the weight up on rows today for kicks. Did some reps with 100kg but far from comfy. I can do like 20 reps with 70kg or something but as weight goes up gets hard fast.
For all my needs I’ll probably keep the weight down and reps high as much as possible. Who knows one day I might be bent rowing 100kg like nothing but not for a while.
Thor’s 500+ is a bit late for me to watch but ima drop my prediction here. 501 smooth. 510kg maybs. 520kg nah.
I’m going with the controversial he misses it, gets it to the knees but can’t lock it out ![]()
Noooo take it back you’ve jinxed it all.
Someone has to play the other side ![]()
AND he shits his pants. That is my prediction, success or no, he shits himself.
Maybe he did shit himself. Could gone for 510kg after
I dunno. I watched the video one whole time, and I thought he didn’t have much more in him. I thought it was going to go up a bit easier. But I probably don’t have an eye for such things.
Nah I don’t think ur far off. Probably wasn’t much more there. 510 maybe but not really any reason to go for it.
Thor’s sticking point is mid range-ish so might look like pops off the floor but it’ll slow down and I doubt anyone would be able to grind 500+. It’s relatively clean or not at all.
470kg moves like a 90% ish lift so makes 100% like above 500+ but like I said there’s little margin for error.
He also put it down pretty quickly, which had me thinking that he was right at his limit. And yeah, it looked like it slowed quite a lot as it went past the knees.
