GuineaPig’s Training Log - Hunt 300 Deadlift

Got the StrongArm Sport Deadlift bar in today and it is great quality up there with Rogue and Texas bars.

Been lifting on thin calibrated plates long enough to forget how much easier deadlift bar and bigger plates were.

Technically a light deadlift day: bunch of easy sets with 180kg -ish and a cheeky 220kg single.

Unfortunately I didn’t plan for the super cheat mode of deadlift bar + these plates so this is about all the weight I have (have a pair of 2.5kgs left).

@simo74 u know anybody who could lend/rent me a pair of tens of twenty. I might even buy em for > RRP because right now second hand plates are going for double that

I don’t know anyone selling. My gym Athleta24/7 is renting gear so you could email them. No idea if it is for members only.
Maybe just train more volume with the lighter weight. @MarkKO just put up a nice program on @Koestrizer log which was more volume with lighter weights. Might interest you.

If this is all I got than I’ll have to do that but I wanna use the power of my “final form” (deadlift bar + bumpers) to hit some big numbers before going back to calibrated plates. With this set up and long enough Time in corona virus we might be looking at a 270kg or 600 lb cheat pull.

MA1 in Victoria just restocked but was gone almost as fast. Managed to snag a 1.25kg and a pair of 10s though. Will need more but plenty of time to acquire them because I’ll need a while to build to whatever big number I hit.

Failing that I guess I’ll hit 225kg for like 20 reps or something lol

Big negative $$$ gains for my bank account these past two weeks:

Picked up some more used weight plates in a package from MA1 so should be good there. I may even have extra for my mates. Nice to buy Australian.

Pair of clips coming in from Loaded Lifting because ima die on squats if the plates go slide slide.

Looking to pick up some cheaper gym mats via Facebook Marketplace on Mondi

If I have any money left over or can sell my current meh stiff bar might upgrade to a decent stiff bar for squats/bench and deadlift accessories. Had a great experience with StrongArm Sport with the noodle bar so who knows.

Still a ? on a better power bar but with the above things should have the tools to make some gains. Feeling the momentum picking up again and look to hit bigger numbers than ever.

Am excited to push meme deadlifts because they feeling and moving good considering I’m still de trained. Will be quite a shock to go back to calibrated plates but we’ll deal with that when we get there.

Great work Pigman. Don’t stress about needing clamps for squats, in fact, clamps for anything

Welcome back big fella. How’s things during the corona pandemic? You still working?

Hey man, yeah everything seems quite normal in our life, apart from she shelves being empty. We’re all still working (luckily). It’s a weird situation, don’t send your kids out, let them go to the shops, park etc, but send them to school to be together, haha.
Good to see you still smashing it. How’s everything with you? You in isolation?

Yeah um I dun remember exactly when we last touched base but got into a special master of teaching instance that focuses on social justice, low SES and rural education which is cool because I wanna be in regional VIC anyways.

Coronavirus wise course is online mostly so right now nothing much changes. Meant to have a lot rural placements and ESW work throughout the course starting in a few weeks so dunno how that will go down.

Gains wise I recovered from the back injury that had me out for a while and got into building back up and getting bigger/fatter/stronger using the Sheiko Gold AI App. Had solid two weeks off between corona virus and sourcing equipment:

Squats are bit slow going I think my muscle hasn’t rebuilt fully especially me quads and I’ve been experimenting with a flat shoe and wider stance. Hit 190kg x 4 end of last block.

Bench gooder hit 135kg few weeks ago before gyms locked down.

Deadlifts gooder also hit 240x4 couple weeks ago on calibrated plates. My home deadlift set up is big bumpers so the whip is crazy so during this lockdown period I might hit some mega cheat deadlift numbers. I feel like 270ish is possible but I need to buy more plates for that

When gyms closed asked myself whether I’d be living my best life without lifting and answer was no. So bunch of money into equipment. Rented some plates and a bench from a gym owner in tight with (unfortunately his gym isn’t gonna survive this).

I’ve considered a home gym for myself in the past but that was more like in 10 years but these events have pushed me to acquire a few pieces. It’s really good fun if expensive

Sounds like everything has been working out, I have seen some of your posts over last couple of months, been lurking, just not posting.
Your pushing some bloody good numbers there mate, well done. Well done on starting the Teaching degree, sounds like an interesting course, being out in the bush, great place to be.

Life’s still going full on. I’d love a better stiff bar for the hike gym to add to my other “lifetime” pieces but everywhere is sold out.

It’s crazy the amount of gym gear that’s sold recently. I’m glad I’ve got a half decent setup here at home with plenty of weight. Some Muppets on gumtree are selling old crusty pairs of standard 15kg plates for $150

Mate tell me about it. Price gouging and disaster profiteering. Preying on those afflicted with boy dysmorphia. 10 bucks a kilo second hand when this stuff is $5/kg new is ridiculous. I could buy Eleiko for that price.

I’m lucky I picked up some weight plates 4 bucks a kilo because I jumped on a restock early. If I upgrade my stiff bar I got a mate lined up to buy my old one because everywhere else is sold out or ridiculously priced

Didnt do the good things to prep for this sesh; didn’t eat the entire day. Still it wasn’t half bad.

Heaviest triple on pause squats I think I’ve hit was pretty cruisy so plenty to build upon there and building on high rep back squats and front squats: Rep PB 130kg x 12 is low because I rarely hit rep squats and rep PB on front squats @ 75kg x many).

Feel like momentum is building again. Should hit full pace soon on squats and have another productive block. App is registering a big bump in workload going from corona virus lock down fuck all to light training again so I think I’ll be given relatively light work this week but that’s probably for the best.

Might be onto something with the flat stance. Has taken a while but I reckon I can work up to rep PRs in all rep ranges and hit bigger numbers on the backend of it this block.
