Geez - looking at the cards for UFC 68 and 69, they seem pretty weak.
Cro Cop hasn’t been named, but he said his next fight would be on April 20. Is that the scheduled date for 69?
Barring future injuries, He will be a champion at 185. He could beat Anderson Silva today.
Judgming by his frame… I really don’t see him hitting 205.

As much as I like GSP I do not think he can beat Anderson anytime soon. Anderson is a few levels better standing up and he is a southpaw. That is just trouble.

As far as I’m concerned, the return of Randy Couture to fight Tim Sylvia and regain his crown as the king of the heavyweights division is enough to carry any card. I’m actually as excited as I was for the Rampage and Crocop fights.
I wonder if he gets a bonus from Biotest for moving up weight classes.

No, April 20-21 is UFC 70. I agree that the next couple cards look weak and unless something changes I’m not buying or watching the PPV’s until 70 (skipped 67 and felt no regret).
That said, I’m looking forwards to the next PRIDE on Feb 24th, not the greatest card but hopefully the fights will be good.

I don’t think he beats Silva today. Penn has good stand up and put a beating on GSP. Silva’s standup is better. It would be a fun fight to watch if he puts on quality weight, and i’m sure he would. I think 205 is a stretch as well.

I think the April card will be UFC 69 (March will be 68). Any idea who CroCop will be fighting?
As for the interview, my connection at work won’t pick it up, does GSP give a time frame for moving up in weight class?
He can DEFINITELY make middle weight but whats the point… almost everyone cuts down to make their division. Tito is more like a heavyweight than a 205’er, GSP is more like a MW, etc etc. Melvin Guillard used to fight at 170, but if he cuts he makes 155. Sherk too.
Nearly everyone who was on TUF fights in a lower weight class now (Florian, sanchez, etc).
I think GSP should stay till he destroys EVERYONE in the division. Though basically he only needs to fight Diego “dirty” Sanchez… and he pretty much cleared the division (well any real competition).
But the cost to benefit ratio of moving up a weight class is a lot. Sure he might be at his natural weight but when you’re going in at 185 (and you weigh that much IN THE RING) but the guys fighting you are 200 in the ring its a whole diff. ball game.
I’m roughly 175 right about now, and for shits and giggles I cut 12lbs one night. 2 1/2 hrs shadowboxing and riding a bike in the sauna, and I’m no where near fight condition which would probably round out the other few lbs i’d need to cut. Hell I lose nearly 2lbs when I take a piss.
I personally think it might affect your conditioning but I’m not the professional they are so obviously it doesn’t to a noticeable extent.
It just doesn’t make sense to fight AT your weight unless the Org’s make some sort of rule that they can’t cut past a certain weight. (5lbs is one thing, drastic tito like drops is another).

Maybe CT convinced him to go on a bulking cycle at the Mr. O… Just think GSP adding 35lbs of muscle (170 to 205)!
CT did mention GSP would be a record setting deadlifter. ![]()
-yes I’m kidding about the bulking cycle.
That’s a good point Xen nova, hardly anyone competes at their natural weight.
GSP I could see going to MW. He has the talent, but when he’s up against a monster like Rich Franklin who comes down from 210 lbs or so the size difference will really be hurting him. Like Xen said, unless you are a HW no one fights at their natural weight. In the OWGP Wanderlei weighed more than Mirko when he didn’t have to cut. And it’s way better in MMA than in boxing. Those fucked up 14 or so weight classes see some monstrous cuts. But that is another argument.
I think he just needs to chill at WW for the time being, he’s currently king of possibly the most competitive organization weight class out there (except for maybe Pride LW or Shooto).
