I just received some Grow! bars for the first time today. I was a little bit surprised at the macro profile. Do those of you who eat along Massive Eating Guidelines and, for the most part, separate carbs and fat eat them? 6 g of fat seems a little high with 22 g of carbs. Of course it’s not the end of the world. But I’m trying to clean things up some more for the 2nd stage of my bulk.
I do consume vegetables, and high-fiber, low GI fruit with my P + F meals, but I’m guessing that the carbs in the Grow! bars are not comparable to this.
It really doesn’t matter. Eat the Grow! bars, and don’t worry if they have both fat AND carbs. Read 7 habits to highly effective nutrition and lean eatin parts I and II by John Berardi.

Thanks… Well I have read all that. And all of the Massive Eating articles. I’m bulking, and Massive Eating is what I’ve been following. I’d say I’m spot on 90% of the time. I might have a meal or two on the weekends that don’t fit the parameters. And occasionally have a few drinks. I’ve had really good muscle gains. A little more fat than I would’ve liked but it doesn’t bother me too much. But to minimize fat gains I do like to be as strict as possible outside from those weekend meals that don’t fit the parameters and minimal drinking.
So, I guess what you’re trying to tell me is that the macro content of the bars isn’t something you I would need to worry about. You’re probably right. The fat in the bars is not excessive.
I’m not sure what the fuss is about 'cause Grow! Bars are a perfect carb/protein snack.
Berardi never said you shouldn’t have any fat with carb/protein meals. He just recommends keeping it low - like below 8 grams.
I believe Berardi just wants to keep it sane.
I follow Massive Eating Principles and IMO there is nothing wrong with two Grow! Bars at once.
440 Kcal 44g Protein 44g Carbs (8g Fiber) and 12g Fat.
JB says to stick below 10g but 2 extra grams ain’t gonna kill ya.
My breakfast contains 15 grams of fat and I have seen no fat gain whatsoever. Even though I am currently bulking, my maintanence breakfasts contained the same amount of fat and I did well to keep my bodyfat % consistent low (under 10%).

Thanks everyone. You all make sense. I won’t worry about it. (That said, you are training for a triathlon, Tri. When I was doing endurance training at that level, I could eat most anything and not gain fat.)
