Grip Training for Chin-ups/Pull-ups

Basically, my grip fails on pullups/chipups long before my lats even start to get tired. I can do 8 or so bodyweight chins, and 4 bodyweight pullups… and I’d really like to be able to do more so that I can start adding weight and really hitting my back. Can anyone suggest a routine to increase my grip strength?

hanging from a bar to failure
Get those grip trainer things. It’s like 2 bars with a spring in the middle. You close them against resistance and it makes your grip stronger.
Train your forearms: wrist curls, reverse wrist curls

I like hanging from a bar like already mentioned, obviously deadlifts, and maybe, just maybe use wrist straps on the last one or two sets of chins only.

Don’t forget to take a heavy pair of dumbbells for a walk twice per week.

Captain of Crush Grippers would be an excellent investment as would doing other grip work such as heavy farmers walks with DB’s and pinch grip holds with plates.

Farmer walks are great. But just keep doing those pull ups. You will adapt, and when you do, start using towels for grip…

forearm grippers worked well for me. saw a noticeable difference in my grip strength in 2 weeks. however, i was using it during work, during class, probably got in about 200 - 300 reps a day with a 150lbs grip.

and like everyone else said, just hold onto something heavy!!

snatch grip deadlifts work wonders!

Hangs rock. What I like to do is hang on and put all of my weight on my right arm, then shift it to the left when my right gets tired. Keep switching until you’re burnt out.

I use Bar holds - you load up a barbell in a rack with heavy weight, then hold it - aim for 30-60 seconds, the length of a set.

Farmers walks are fantastic too!

I made a wrist roller when I was much younger. My thoughts were if I grabbed some one by the arm, they were not going to pull away. It really worked for me. With your wrist roller you can add weight to what ever amount you have available.

Use a fat bar for pullups and/or hang with the edge of your fingers.
