Green Tea Bad for Bodybuilding

Hey guys, i am on the fence in regards to using “Lean green” green tea extract supplement because of this research

I realize it is mice we are talking about but i am concerned green tea may effect recovery and muscle growth.

Does anyone have any way to refute this or a way to justify taking such a supplement for bodybuilding.

It seems the anti-cancer benefits may just be due to the ability to inhibit igf-1 so tumors don’t grow.

If I wanted to refute the article, I would point out that aside from being in mice the researchers found a ‘significant decrease in IGF-1 levels’ after ‘24 weeks of continuous infusion’.

The full text said the dose was akin to 6 cups of green tea a day, so IF this decrease in IGF-1 would lead to a decrease in muscle mass you can just stay under that limit.

And that’s a bit IF, who says that IGF-1 levels in the prostate, where they measured, correlate or are significant when applied to muscle tissue.

Hell, even if we assume the worst in all scenarios, the benefits of green tea on insulin sensitivity and fat burning would win in a cost-benefit analysis.

Until I see a direct study in regards to green tea affecting muscle mass accrual or preservation, I will continue to consume it by the pot.

Great stuff hydra, good to have someone versed in interpreting studies. I was not sure how all of that applied to systemic igf-1.

I am still uncertain of the potency of 1000mg green tea extract compared to 6 cups of green tea.

Thank you for your input

I drink 3-5 cups of green tea everyday.

I used to drink that, now I’m down to like 1-2 cups a day. I mix it with ginger tea and have it after meals for digestion.

OP,

Bad for body building? The hobby/sport requires you to CONSUME a vast amount of food and do extreme things, so you can be assured your body produces more nasty by products as a result of having to process so much. You might as well mitigate the harmful, cumulative effects of those by products by adopting healthy habits like drinking green tea.

If I’m ever around people who are smoking, I will drink green tea afterwards.

Hi,
Green tea can lower blood pressure, burns fat, and has multiple protective factors against multiple cancers due to its anti-oxidant content. Also, most people do not know that eating any food with black pepper and drinking green tea at the same time increases the ECGC content 8 times more than drinking green tea by itself. Check out the web site whfoods.com and go to green tea, it will tell you all the benefits.
