Greatest Strongman Ever?

Giant MacAskill…look em up if you don’t know who it is

Dennis 3 K is correct. Angus MacAskill was the strongest man. Of course being 7 foot 9 inches and weighing 425 gave him an edge.

F. polyctena worker ant carrying 10-times her own bodyweight.

Beat that!

Weights were hand made from lead by the students running the trials:

"During our trials we discovered that forest ants carried 30 to 40-times their body weight over the testing distance. We tested several worker ants with our top weight of 352.9mg but not all of them could carry this burden. Those who could carry this weight displayed significant differences in body weight. Outstanding was one ant weighing only 8.7mg who could therefore carry 39.7-times her body weight.

We compared this achievement with that of German silver medallist in weight lifting (Ronny Weller) at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. He pulled 210kg and pushed 257.5kg, himself weighing 146.48kg. In comparison to the forest ant he should have lifted 5815.256kg, the weight of a tram carriage, and carried this weight over a distance of 50 meters."

You didn’t say it had to be human.

you kno what i do gots something to beat ur little ant…

The Rhinoceros Beetle,

“Rhinoceros beetles are also the strongest animals on the planet, proportionally. They can lift up to 850 times their own weight. To put this into perspective, if a human of average height and weight had the strenght of the rhinoceros beetle, it would be able to lift a 65 ton object.”

I’ve really enjoyed watching the strongman stuff on ESPN2. Is it true that Icelandic have taken home the trophy more than any other country?

As I said before my vote is for Kaz and Magnus Ver Magnesson, but Savickas is fast becoming the greatest current strongman. He destroyed everyone at the Arnold, and he now holds almost every world record for the heavy lifts. As Kaz said at this years Arnold: “Zydrunas Savickas, the strongest man in the world.” When the greatest calls you the strongest man in the world there is no doubt.

Good job!

And I inspired you to go look something up.

My work here is done.

Yeah, it is really strong for its bodyweight, has high relative strength - but has pathetic ACTUAL strength.

Just like small light “functionally strong” guys and that whole argument.

This thread is good, can people talk more about lesser known strongmen?

We don’t get strongest man stuff down in Oz, and the DVDs aren’t for sale usually for a year or so after, I haven’t a clue what is going on (although obviously I am going to do some searching now, I am not some lazy kid expecting it all handed to me on a platter). Giving me some good places to start.

KAZ!!!

sandowplus.co.uk is a good site.

i believe its 8 total wins coming from MVM and JPS. Strange when you look at the population there - probably under 300,000 they produce some class strength athletes and beautiful women. At least somewhere has their priorities right.

Yeah, well my cousin Larry is stronger than a rhinoceros beetle. He used lift like a 100,000 times his bodyweight and he was big too. But he hurt his back picking up a mountain so he doesn’t lift anymore.
