Can you explain to me what being “stereotypically white” entails?
I have a strong feeling if anyone wrote “stereotypically black” in one their posts, he’d back asking them that same type of question.
What word should I use to describe someone who completely goes against urban culture, uses no slang, ignores all Hip Hop or historically black pop culture references and who, if they did use the word, would do so in a way that would let everyone around them know they not only don’t use it often but are using it out of context in a way that is not socially accepted?
If you use “stereotypically black” in a negative way, you can bet I will ask what you mean…but NOTHING like that was done here at all making your statement irrelevant.
Your main point here is context, right? So if I tried to make some new homeys and in a non threatening, friendly tone said, as the bodyguard jokingly (I think) suggested, “Ayo I got next nigga”, it’d be cool? But wait…I don’t sound stereotypically black. SHIT. So to avoid getting beaten up, I’d have to adopt thug mannerisms too?
WTF? Are you really this stupid? If you SOUND like someone who is awkward saying the fucking word, expect for people to react as such.
Wait, do you really think the people around you can’t tell by how you speak, act, dress and look whether this is natural to you?
It is no different than some white guy trying to dap me up when he clearly doesn’t know how to do it. I might not be “offended” but he would damn sure be labeled a wannabe in short order.
Why do you think other people are blind to WHO you are?
You’re right, it WOULD be posing if i said it, congratulations X. That’s why I don’t use the word. AGAIN, I don’t need advice on how to properly use the word, I’m raising awareness that there’s a double standard that shouldn’t be tolerated. I’s almost as though your solution to the problem is for white people to start “acting stereotypically black”. I don’t ignore hip hop, and I can quote black pop culture references all day long…but that still wouldn’t be enough to prevent me getting jumped if I casually let “nigga” slip out at the wrong time.
