In Chris Shugart’s “The “Big Picture” Seminar - Triage, Hierarchies, and Snowballs” he mentions as a bad habit “…fake “healthy” cereals like granola…”.
I’m wondering if the granola I eat for breakfast is considered “fake” by the experts here.
Since the cereal is organic. It is already a leg up any other granola cereal.
That being said organic doe snot mean healthy.
The cereal looks ok. However it would depend on body composition goals and what you are training for.
If you were looking to cut, this would not be the breakfest I would suggest.
But keeping to the actual question. In my humble opinion, this would not fall in to the class of “healthy cereals” Shugart was speaking about. (But to know the truth, he would have to respond.)

I concur with greens+ (dope ass name by the way) in that this is not an optimal form of break fast, especially if your family is at high risk of diabetes. Last time i checked nothing fuks your pancreas into oblivion like evaporated cane juice (essentially pure glucose/fructose).
Also fuk all protein involved.
I’d say it’s a OK bulking snack but breakfast should be more substantial in full range aminos and either complex, fiberous carbs or high quality fats (depending on goals).
Also it includes no vegetables. If it isn’t vegetables or protein what is it really? a CHO that is way more expensive than steel cut oats? A CHO that has way less fiber and protein than SCO? A CHO that digests faster leaving you hungrier sooner leading to evening overconsumption?
Or is it just a tasty little treat and you don’t give a fuck what anybody thinks? do you eat it with yogurt?
I suppose it all depends, but that organic shit is expensive, as are many non-organic cereals. I must be obvious that I am the cheapest cunt alive.
There not horrid but hey Id just do your self a Big favor by the stuff thats it it aside from the cane juice ate get all the oats nuts rasians etc. buy then buy a big tub and pour it all together bam your set you know its the goods and more than likely saved some CASH!!!
I mean all that stuff listed in its normal form is dirt friggin cheap you could have a 50 gal drum for prob $20
It is a healthy breakfast, healthier than a lot of processed cereals and what not people have every morning. However, the above poster is correct in that you could simply create your own muesli/granola simply by taking some oats / bran, nuts (you can by them sliced and what not), dried cranberries (unsweetened) and what not and make your own. That way you know EXACTLY what’s in it and know what you are eating.
Especially mixed with vanilla whey protein and frozen berries. I make mine the night before so the oats fully absorb the liquid[/quote]
The night before Shug’s seminar, my girlfriend and I stayed at the Hyatt in Boston. At the breakfast buffet they had this stuff they called Swiss Birche Muesli. We ate it and loved it. Now we have it evey morning for breakfast. Basically it’s the same thing Shugs talked about in his article (and the seminar). Cold oatmeal.
We make ours with “Silver Palate” raw thick cut oats, soaked overnight in 2% milk, shaved coconut, sliced almonds, and dried currants/raisins/cranberries. In the morning we mix in a couple tablespoons of plain yogurt. We make a big batch every 3 0r 4 days. It keeps fine in the fridge.

I do that exact same thing and find it very delicous. I add some frozen banana and cinnamon to mine.
But anyway back to the subject. Granola for breakfast. In my opinion its not bad for if your bulking. For example at my school in the all you can eat cafeteria they have a cereal called “Cascadian Farms Organic Granola and Oat” Cereal. Its pretty dang good. But the suprising thing was the calorie content. 2/3 cup was 230 calories, 46 grams of carbs, and there was like 5 grams of protein. I was like WOW. But thats my take on it anyway.
