I just think my DSL is slow, ran a check and the connection itself is slow. I dont think Chrome has anything to do with it.
Installed it Tuesday evening, uninstalled it today (Thursday).
Liked:
Speed - faster than IE 7 or Firefox 3.
Simple interface.
Searches from the address bar.
Disliked:
Bogged down over time, especially with YouTube windows open. Uses way too much CPU.
When I first installed, Flash didn’t work. Once I downloaded and installed the latest Flash plugin for FireFox AND rebooted, Flash worked.
Java didn’t work in Chrome until I installed Java SE 6 Update 10 RC, an early release beta.
The font size is adjustable , but was either too small or too large.
Had intermittent issues with the mouse scroll wheel.
I’ll wait until it’s in a more mature release.

I would have never guessed you were a fruitware guy!
So far my only issues have been some weird text field happenings, sketchy java support, youtube is a problem, and the spell check seems to work half the time.
facebook doesnt work well with it either.

Me a geek? Cool!
Well I like the interface so far and the speed seems good under Vista 64 premium.
I’ve had no crashes but there’s definitely problems with java - I cannot use the java system with my hushmail account. This is a major security problem for me.
I assume I’ll find lots of other java related problems too.
Flash seems to work fine and the DNN sites I’ve set up all display perfectly so no extra coding to be done to make them compatible (Thank fuck). Mind you they are mainly server side scripted in asp.net so there’s less for the browser to do anyway (shit - just realised - I AM a geek!)
It’s got a way to go in the behind the scenes stuff but so far I like how it’s coming along.
If google fix the problems quick enough with new releases or patches then I’ll probably use it as my main browser. If they don’t get their asses in to gear quick though it’ll be back to firefox for me.
As far as stalking and facebook go, stalking in real life is way more fun. Errrr.
it is, but far more time consuming and more effort required. i can sit here in my warm house, cup of tea in one hand, girls profile in the other…

Are you in Windows? If not, you won’t see a download link.
Linux. I realized that shortly after I posted here.
I’m surprised it would even let you try. When you go there on Mac, it just says there’s no version available yet and to sign up for updates.
This is pretty damn fast…using it with no problems so far.
Mark another one for no problems and impressed by the speed.
My major complaint with Chrome right now: Does anyone notice it using a lot more ram than Firefox? Each tab usually uses at least 15 MB up to maybe 65 MB of ram, whereas Firefox is roughly 5 MB to 25 MB. I suppose it IS in beta though.

Chrome is faster in VMWare Windows XP on my Mac than Safari is natively in OSX for me. I can’t wait to see how the Mac-specific version handles once they release that.
If Chrome is based on Webkit, I can see Apple releasing Safari 4.0 with performance similar to Chrome.
I’m curious:
A) How Chrome handles the browser Acid test
B) How well it handles flash
C) How well it handles Java
I suspect it only handles Flash and Java as well as Adobe’s and Sun’s commitment to the browser. I think the plugins or the people who write Flash/Java web apps are worse than the how the browser tries to handle them.
You can take the Acid tests yourself here: Action - The Web Standards Project
It won’t do as well as the newest WebKit on Safari though (which you can get here, after installing Safari:
http://nightly.webkit.org/ .) The WebKit Nightlies are already at 100/100 in Acid 3, and usually fairly stable (so you could typically use it over top of Safari almost all of the time.
The problem with the Acid tests is that they’re artificial. Web devs already have to make everything work on at least IE 7 and Firefox 2, and almost always IE 6, so that really limits what they can do with Javascript anyways.
Firefox 3 is coming out with a new Javascript engine in the near future. We’ll see how fast it is. (you can already get it in the nightly builds of FF.)
The tabs using more ram makes sense. I have alot of tabs open when I’m browsing, and I noticed that when I go to close them, sometimes it pauses and takes about 5 seconds to close that tab. This annoyed me after a while so I just went back to Firefox.
Didn’t really notice it being any faster, but I might play around with it some more later.

The cool thing about Chrome is that as you close tabs, it frees up the memory you were using from that tab. Pretty cool process / memory management.
It is still Beta as well. I am positive it will continue to get better.
I have to admit, it is not yet my main browser either. Mainly because I have to run it in VMWare and that isn’t optimal in itself. When the Mac version comes out, I might consider it. But I’ll never fully abandon FF.
Downloaded Chrome the other day (longtime FF user), can’t get enough of this thing.
Google’s done it again.

While the EULA is changing, they can already track your movements through the Internet (mostly/only) for the purpose of serving you relevant advertisements. Every site that has a DoubleClick ad or Google ad, if I’m not mistaken, stores what site/type of site you were on, and you’ll be given an ad more relevant to your interests next time.
I’m not sure if they store specific sites, or if they store personally identifiable information, but it’s often not too difficult to figure out who you are by what you search by.
