Google Chrome

Firefox 3.1 beta1 seems just as fast. And no ads. They both have tweaked javascript.

But I really like chrome’s interface. The only problem is that I don’t see how you can add search engines : mininova and wikipedia are essential.

go: options, basic. and then you can tweak the searchs.

i did like the multiple search engine things in FF, but i rarely used it to make it worth while.

Seems to perform quite well, but I get about 60% - 80% cpu usage while browsing T-Nation with it and I did manage to crash it once while watching a video stream.

Something dubious with their terms of service though…

Quote from Google Chrome EULA:
Clause 11 wrote:

"By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any content which you submit, post or display on or through, the services.

This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the services and may be revoked for certain services as defined in the additional terms of those services."
the recently closed tabs function is pretty cool. im always hitting the x then instantly realising that i didnt mean to close it…

Now that’s understanding your user base. :)
Its this kind of shit that makes Google the biggest name on the internet and why nobody will take that from them.

They do understand the customer base, its what made them the biggest search engine to begin with…and besides porn is one of the most popular searched topics, I’m sure they looked into that.

It’s fast, but I need a little ( a lot) more control and doubt if I could live without my extensions. The interface is bit TOO minimal for me at this point. I don’t like the bookmarks bar.

Just a first impression, but to me it was “ok… it’s a browser”. It’s not like I have any speed issues with Firefox though I still don’t prefer v.3.

I scanned through all the posts quickly, so I am not sure if anyone covered this. Does this Google Chrome have any kind of spyware or anti-virus protection? Someone tried to open a credit card with my name not long ago, and would like as much protection as possible.

Not working for me, I keep getting:

“The application failed to initialize properly Error 0x0000005”

I’ve tried installing it twice at this point.

what OS u using? i think it is only for XP/Vista.

Holy crap this thing is stupid fast!

It looks a little preskool-ish to me, but I’ll take it with the crack speed boost.

I don’t find it to be as fast or faster than Windows XP.

huh? do you mean internet explorer running in XP?

Just a thought about the things you never read in the EULA. There’s been a fair amount of discussions about the workding of the following clause–

From the Google Chrome EULA (End User Licence Agreement):

EULA Source: Google Chrome - Download the Fast, Secure Browser from Google

11. Content license from you

11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.

By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.

This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the Services and may be revoked for certain Services as defined in the Additional Terms of those Services.

Thoughts on this wording?

What if you use Chrome to browse personal or proprietary documents?

Apparently the open source version is released under the BSD license and has no EULA. Time to go get that version.

Wow! Using Google Chrome right now. I am a jaded Silicon Valley SW Engineer, but this damn browser is great so far…and only in Beta.

The incognito mode is a brilliant idea…for those times when you have to close the browser quick and don’t have time to erase the history before someone else uses the computer…not that that has ever happened to me

I’m running XP using VMWare Fusion on my Macbook Pro.

After a little more investigating it seems like my Symantec Endpoint might be the culprit. It looks like I’ll be waiting for the next release!

I found the solution to my problem, it requires a slight registry hack.

Chrome is pretty sweet so far.

I tried it this morning. Started out fast, then it started to hang on me.

I also found that Safari started out fast, but really bogged down over time. Anyone else?
