Good Pull-Up Routines?

Whatup!

I’ve been lifting for a few years now, and am a huge fan of pullups (especially wide) for gaining size and strength. Just wondering if anyone has any specific set/rep structures that they’ve tried in the past. I had great success starting out with several sets to failure, which ended up working quite nicely since my first set would get me about 10, the second 9, then 8, etc.

I always seemed to cop out about one less each set with 90 second rest. So at the end I was doing a nice 70 or so wide grip pullups even though the last sets were of 3, 2, and 1.

Anyone else got anything good? Specifically rest periods, maybe low rep w/added weight…?

Search ‘gymnasts extended set chinning routine’ this will elevate your chin numbers like you didn’t think possible.

You could try a ladder or a wave…

Ladder: Perform one rep, take a short rest, perform two reps, rest, three reps, rest, four reps, rest, five reps, rest and so on until you cannot keep increasing the reps.

That is one ‘ladder’, once you’ve finished the first ladder, perform another. Start at one rep and work up. This method is great because it allows you to do a lot of reps in a short amount of time.

Or you could try a wave which is pretty simple…

Similar to a ladder, except when you reach the point that you can’t increase reps, go down the opposite way. For example…

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

If the reps become too high, strap on some weight!

Simple enough?
