I’ve heard the 0.5lb per week limit before too, probably from an article on t nation, I’ll try and find it
If you truely believe that you will never achieve anything, give up, delete your account here and dont come back…
or,
do us a favor, stop reading the articles here, eat smart (you already know everything you need to know) lift heavy with enough intensity to induce vomiting for 3 years, then come back…
you will be doing both the community and yourself a big favor…
I’m always surprised that people think a half pound of muscle per week is somehow a small amount. Since when is 100 pounds of muscle in 4 years a small amount? How rare is it to even know people at the gym who have the work ethic and persistence to have gained 100 pounds of muscle even in 10 years? [/quote]
Muscle gain quite frankly doesn’t happen in such a linear fashion.
You may gain nothing or very little the one week, and 2-3 pounds the next week… Or more, or less…
Depends on many factors.
Thibs himself (who originally wrote about the 0.5 lb /week thing) has mentioned that one gains more or less in spurts or at least non-linear not that long ago…
Edit: And of course, some skinny kid weighing 120 lb soaking wet and with loose change in his pockets can gain a tremendous amount of strength/muscle in a relatively short time and end up at 180-200 within a year or a year and a half with reasonable fat gain… While heavier guys don’t make that kind of fast progress anymore.
