Hey guys, I have been trying to get some more protein in my diet, so I have begun eating 2 chicken breasts a day (10 oz or so). The problem is, my family is telling me to slow down because this costs too much. I need to get more protein then I already am, so I can’t just cut back.
Where can I find good deals on chicken/any other meat product? How much does boneless chicken cost?
edit: ok seriously…Don’t buy bonless chicken, its more expensive, and buy chicken with the skin on it its cheaper. If you want you could try the freezer isle and find one of those big bags of plain chicken. They’re just chicken only frozen. The meat isnt as good quality in my opinion but its cheap.
You can probably find better deals at Walmart on large bulk quantities of chicken. Break up and freeze what you won’t use in a day or two though, chicken goes bad fast.
Given the cost of gas though I would plan to go only if you have other reasons for going to Walmart anyway. Also stock up while you’re there and freeze for a month or so ahead.
Other then that, watch for sales at your grocery stores. Also consider buying chicken thighs instead of breasts. They tend to be a dollar a pound or more cheaper. Personally I find the extra fat gives them a better flavor. Depending on your goals though, this may not be a valid substitution.

I usually buy some chicken and freeze it. I don’t think I want to buy thighs though, seeing as how im trying to bulk but i don’t want a lot of fat.
To the poster above you, those seem like good ideas. I’ll have to look into it.
At places that actually have a meat market where they cut and pack their own meat (NOT walmart), they will often have a small section of meat that’s nearing its sell-by date.
You can get meat on the cheap there, and so long as you freeze it or cook it right away, you’ll be fine.

If you are dirt poor, you could probably find some crappy 5lb whey for like 60 bucks and it would be far more cost effective then the chicken. [/quote]
Or you could buy a 5lb tub of Grow! here for like 30 bucks…
Seriously though, OP needs to learn more about food. Buy bags of frozen chicken breasts, buy family size trays of chicken thighs, legs, drumsticks, whatever, chop em up, freeze em, use as needed…fresh, skinless chicken breasts are one of the most expensive meats in most grocery stores. Look for breasts with rib meat, they’re cheaper and larger than boneless skinless breasts.
