Good Bench for Home Gym?

Can anyone recommend a bench they use in their home gym that I can get for under $200? I found a nice cheap power rack for $321 on Amazon but I have the following bench at home:

I bought it like 5 years ago before I started training. There’s no way I’d trust it for benching any considerable weight. All the benches at modells and Sports Authority are rated for 300lbs max (includes weight of person). I went to Gymsource and some other higher end fitness places and their benches are $300+ . Thats more then the fuckin power rack.

Any thoughts or recommendations? I’d like it to handle at least 400 lbs barbell bench press for when I reach that glorious day. Incline would be a huge plus. Don’t care about decline.

I use this one for benching, and then have another incline(adjustable)bench I got off craigslist.

I think the most I’ve done on it is ~330 and it seemed perfectly sturdy. The only negative is that the bolts tend to work loose and it wobbles a bit, but I just put some threadlock on them and they are fine. I might weld it together at some point to make it stronger and add a cross brace, but at this point it was money well spent as far as I’m concerned. I think I’ve had it for a year and a half now.

Thanks for the link. I researched it and they say the model that replaced the one you got is weaker and lighter. I don’t want to take any chances so I looked for one rated to over 700 lbs that also has incline:

$150 with free shipping:

There are several options at newyorkbarbells. I don’t own any of them but I have one of their racks. Here is a link to their benches. Several of them are rated to 1000 lbs.

Heres my old bench, in my shed. I haven’t used it years, it did the job ages ago but I only have 105kg weight for it and I am not arsed buying any more weight for it. The bench is adjustable and the rack is adjustable so it could be used for squats too.

If I remember correctly, you bought the Powerline power rack. Powerline (a product line made by Bodysolid) makes the 125X and the 130X. They both do incline, flat, and decline. If you just want a flat bench go with the bodysolid flat bench GFB 350. The 125 and 130 benches should go for no more than $180 and the flat bench for $150. Go to bodysolid.com to see which one you would be interested in, then check amazon again for a great deal.

I have a crap one at home. I wouldn’t recommend it. It isn’t sturdy and I literally can’t bench as much on it as on a good bench.

Yup, that’s the rack I got. So far I like it. I just ordered the bench from Deltech but the Powerline benches do look good.

It has been nothing but sturdy and trust me, I have done some stupid shit to it.

Of course you wont install the preacher curl/leg extension. You will immediately throw them in the trash.

Powerline is good shit, I have the lat pulldown and as long as you keep it sufficiently lubed there are no problems. It takes olympic or standard (chick) weights.

I just bought this bench.

I mean you do get what you pay for. 11 Lock out positions. Weight cpacity of 1000 pounds in the flat position, 600 in the incline position. Comfortable to say the least…

Some of these other benches just look flimsy, and I would check weight capacity on the benches. If it is tested for 600 pounds, you also have to equate your bodyweight into that as well, so if you weight 250, technically benching anything over 350 is unsafe.

That’s the main reason I bought the bench I did. It was one of the few that had an actual stated weight capacity and a lifetime warranty on the frame.
