I’m guessing attempted suicide. My guess is he fucked up at school, or got his chick pregnant, or something, and tried to kill himself. It’s noble in some cultures I guess (some Asian cultures). That and it would classify him as mentally unstable. I’m going out on a limb saying this, but I don’t think guys with a history of attempting suicide would be considered ‘combat fit’, or fit for combat training.
