Being in the Military Sucks

I’m just saying. Can anyone whos has served in any army honestly say they liked it? Would you do it again?

KEEP TROLLIN TROLLIN TROLLIN TROLLIN

why don’t you post this in the War Room and see how well it goes over?

After serving in Vietnam, my dad said he’d disown us (my brothers and myself) if we ever joined.

Dif strokes for dif folks.

Not everyone can squat 600… Or want to. If it’s not for you move on to something else.

I’m sure PTSD and such are not exactly fun issues to deal with after being in a war.

Doesn’t mean the military sucks, just that war and violence do.

What’s the appeal? I have 12 days left and I’ll be glad when it’s over.

My buddy just got home from his second tour in Iraq a while ago. While he didn’t particularly love it he didn’t hate it either. He has some good stories about fun to be had in the sand box, and the army is paying for his school. Not a bad gig.
Another one of my friends came home from Afghanistan last winter missing a fist-sized chunk of his skull from a firefight. He’s pissed they won’t let him go back.

For many its a schooling in an environment that takes care of you and a chance to get experiences outside the mainstream (not all good ones though!). It wont suit many either.

For some* its an opportunity to gain weight, be supported in your competition aspirations and eventually leads onto staring in 3 terminator films

*ok, for one anyway

LOL

I can’t believe it

Well I agree it teaches you a lot as a person. Okay, I’ve learned to deal with a lot of bullshit and gotten into the best shape of my life. Doesn’t change anything. I never would’ve joined an army if I didn’t have to. Maybe some day I’ll be more positive about it.

There’s the problem, sounds like you joined up for the wrong reasons.

I’m not american, so there’s a cultural difference here.

Well than no shit. Consription sucks. In the US Military we are all volunteers, guns for hire, Jolly Green Giants walking the earth with rifles. You probably trained with us once and though to your self “Goddamn those American guys are cool.”

I’m breaking your balls man. Good luck. You don’t have to go back in now.

I do agree americans have some cool stuff that makes your service better than mine. I’d still say all armies are the same.

I’m going back today for 2 days. Going on a parade to sieg hail some old fatback general. Can’t wait for wednesday.

It was nice to be in with no big wars going on.

Free chocolate milk was nice. The running not so much.

Conscription is terrible.

Here’s what sci-fi legend Robert A. Heinlein (author of Starship Troopers, the best book about military training in my opinion)had to say about conscription:

“I also think there are prices too high to pay to save the United States. Conscription is one of them. Conscription is slavery, and I don’t think that any people or nation has a right to save itself at the price of slavery for anyone, no matter what name it is called. If a country can’t save itself through the volunteer service of its own free people, then I say: Let the damned thing go down the drain!”

That’s a good quote but doesn’t really apply to my country. There would be no Finland without conscription, we’d be a shitty part of Russia or Soviet Union.

I’ve got some friends who were/are in the army and marines and they loved it. Some people just enjoy being badass slayers of men (or at least the life style of the military lol.) I’ll be leaving for basic in a few days, I hope I love it as much as they do.

You will dude. What branch you going into?

There’s bad times, and good times. After a while, you’ll look back and laugh at the bad times, and the good times.

Enoy the hell out of it, keep your head down and your mouth shut. Don’t volunteer for ANYTHING in bootcamp. Never, never, never!

NEVER!
