Going to Hawaii for Honeymoon. Recommendations?

I got married this past March & w/the wife being a teacher we had to wait until school was over this June to go on our honeymoon; we will be going to Oahu & Kauai for about 2 wks.

My question to T-Nation members that have been there; are there any tourist sights or “must-see” places while we are there? It’s our first time going…

I also plan to get some lifts in or run on the beach but I figure I’ll just ask around for a decent gym.

Thanks in advance.

On Oahu you’ll do well to visit The North Shore. Beaches there are great. I’d recommend staying at the Turtle Bay if at all possible. Waikiki is overcrowded, and chock full of trannies and hookers at night. Which I’m guessing you’d like to avoid. Also, what kind of activities were you looking to partake in? Hiking, surfing? Horse riding?

Gymwise, there’s a 24 Hour Fitness in Waikiki (I guess I’m assuming you’ll be staying there, as most visitors do). Last I recall it’s about $50 for a week. But, if you’re staying at a hotel in Waikiki ask if there are any deals they might have with 24 Hour Fitness Waikiki. There’s also 24 Hour Fitness gyms located all around the island. If you’re looking for a more hardcore gym, there’s PowerHouse Gym and Gold’s Gym in downtown (about 15-20 minutes from Waikiki).

Never been to Kauai yet, but I’d say it’s much more “Hawaii” than Oahu. A lot more country and scenery on that island than Oahu.
If you’re brave, try a helicopter ride there. I say brave because there have been a few…accidents. =/

The beach in front of the Halle Koa in Waikkikki is usually pretty uncrowded. You can access it through a small public park right beside the hotel. It’s right next door to the Hilton Hawiian.

Don’t waste your money on a luau. You can go to the Hilton Hawiian on (I think) Friday and Saturday nights and they do most of that luau shit for free. You just have to get there early to get a seat (no disrespect to luaus, just the commercialism of them and the type of tourons there looks hellish).

Climb Diamond Head early in the day. Take off your hat before you get to the top or the wind will get it.

Take surf lessons. You won’t be surfing on the North Shore and you probably won’t look very good, but it’s definitely something you’ll regret if you don’t.

There’s a buddhist temple on Oahu that is really cool. Can’t remember exactly where it is, but it’s very peaceful.

For me the whole reason we stopped at Oahu for 2 days was to see Pearl Harbor. Went out 3 times in 2 days.
