Bottom line is you hit the wrong nerve on the wrong night. I might tell more about it here or on another thread. It’s a doozy, trust me. And it has nothing to do with TN or this topic.
I’ve been thinking about my initial reaction during this whole conversation and have realized that it was more or less an automatic response, instead of an intelligent, well-thought out criticism…basically, I was trying to find correlation where there probably was none.
To be honest, I really don’t know much of anything about Palin, specifically (of course, other than the general bullshit presented from media). She became sort of an abstraction for me during the campaign and instead of looking into it, like I usually do (since I have zero social life), I lumped her into the ‘politician’ caricature.
That’s the funny thing about reactions (not instincts)…usually they’re fucking wrong.
I probably stick up for her more than I should for one reason: the media maliciously butchered her. It was insidiously malevolent what they did. And many of you who have drawn negative conclusions about her did so at the behest of that media. I know so because you really had nothing else to draw from.
You watch the mutilated, heavily edited Gibson and Couric interviews and think you have her all figured out. You digest the NBC, L.A. Times and New York Times editorials and think you’re quite the political discerners. Uh uh. Righto.
The media butchered her simply because it was easy to do so. Television news outlets are out for ratings and are no more than entertainment. Palin generates good ratings… on both sides of the fence.
So when I said Palin represents a pretty good sized cross section of Montana I was not referring to the voting process. I was referring to demographics. Even if 87% of Montana voters had voted for Obama, Palin is still more “like” them than Bam Bam is. They come from the same basic roots as Palin. They were raised similarly. They conduct their day to day lives like she did (before she was a VP candidate and celebrity). They hunt like she and her family does. They fish like she and her family does. They say Grace like she and her family does.
Get the picture, folks?
Just because she may share similar hobbies or upbringing, doesn’t automatically mean that she, as a person, is similar to or representative of you.

I’m no great Sarah Palin fan, but no they didn’t. They butchered her because she, rightly or wrongly represents traditional religious happily married women with a bunch of kids who don’t believe in killing them. An unspeakably evil demographic they’ve been trying to put in the grave for 40 plus years.

Sarah Palin is totally corrupt and is nothing but a politician, she is just a good enough bullshitter to fool a lot of people into believing that she’s somehow a “real person”.
I assume you have read her new book and have done research on her, so please elaborate on your statement.

That’s not true. They butchered her because she had a handful of “gaffes” that made it appear, whether she is or not, to be a simple minded, country bumpkin that didn’t know where Alaska was on a map.
I have no use for her either way, but to say they butchered her because she has traditional values is totally incorrect.

Off topic, but that is your best avatar ever.

Hell yeah. Who knew I could make a friend in the PWI forum.
Her “gaffes” for the most part were a result of careful editing. She did make some mistakes but they were completely blown out of proportion by dishonest media types. Do you not follow along? Do you have your Ipod plugged in with some rap tunes going and you just plunge in and out of this thread between songs?
She made it abundantly clear that she was in way over her head. You admitted she made mistakes and guess what, the media did to her what they do to everyone else that makes a mistake, as small as it may be.
Remember John Kerry’s “anti-military” comment a few years ago?
And far be it from me to offend you and your neighbors. I never said she was a retard, yet you apparently took offense to my post and I’m not sure why.
Oh, and I love rap music, hence all my classic rock avatars.

If it was not her traditional values/conservatism and homespun persona then maybe you should enlighten us as to why she was butchered. Do be generous and share your carefully concocted and superior political insight.
I explained my opinion quite clearly on why she was butchered in my previous post.
It has nothing to do with being conservative.
And at what point did I ever claim to have superior political insight? I gave my opinion, just as you have. Settle down.

Yeah, this forum is hilarious. Two dudes can be internet friends, but god forbid they should disagree on a political issue. Next thing you know they want to kill each other.

No, no, no, she said she didn’t anticipate the vitriol, mean-spiritedness and contempt from the press. You need to clarify your above statement to include that she did not think she was in over her head as far the job of VP was concerned. To leave it the way it is is to be disingenuous.
The press isn’t usually nice to anyone. I’m not sure what she expected.
And there were several instances, whether it be in debates or interviews, where she came off looking confused and unprepared. Whether that deserved the criticisms she received is up to you to decide.
John Kerry was ripped several years ago for his (edited) anti-military comment. He was blasted for it even though he is a goddamn war vet and the comment was not even presented in the context in which he said it.
Plenty of politicians are nailed by the media, Democrat and Republican.
Pat Buchanan and Ron Paul, both actual conservatives, have never been treated in the same manner as Sarah Palin by the media. How would you explain that?
Perhaps, but then again, I’m of the opinion that the mainstream media is totally worthless, so I don’t expect much out of them.

That’s how the Dem brainwash machine works. You got the slut from Saturday Night Live implanted in your brain and, like an unthinking robot, pulled the lever for Obama (Obama is a proto-fascist who studied mind manipulation techniques.)
That’s how you get idiots to support the massive spending (like on healthcare). No sane person would support spending trillions more when we’re 55 trillion in the hole already. Get people to suspend their rationality. The Dens got that from the Nazis.

And none (very few) have. Even most flaming left wing Democrat pundits, including some women, have begrudgingly conceded that she was absolutely savaged in ways that are unheard of for modern major ticket candidates. She gave them much less material than Obama did with his comprehensive history of anti American activity and associations. He was incessantly worshiped, she was incessantly attacked.
