In Montana, the people who live in Bozeman and Missoula are usually considered by country-livin’ folk to be of the liberal persuasion. (if you’re from here…disregard and consider me a turd)

Didn’t we hear this same line from the Bush W. supporters during his run?

‘He sounds like me!’
‘It’s kinda’ nice to hear someone talk like us for once.’
‘He seems like the sort of guy you could go have a beer or two with.’

No matter what you think of Bush, history repeating itself is generally never a good thing (where the State and politics is concerned).

That won’t work in this instance; you’ll get no traction with this attempted comparison. There is simply no way to compare the middle class, relatively humble upbringing of Palin with the silver spoon upbringing of Bush. Palin represents a cross section of America (not counting the Left Coast and urban Northeasters) far better than Bush ever did.

Read their respective biographies if you think differently.

Touche.

Edit: I guess my jaded ego got the better of me on this one.

Well, she definitely represents a cross section of Montanans far better than the following ever did either:

Obama
Bush II
Clinton
Bush I
Reagan
Carter
Ford
Nixon
Johnson
Kennedy
Eisenhower
Truman (maybe Truman)
FDR
Hoover
Coolidge
Harding
Taft
Teddy
McKinley
Cleveland
Harrison

Before Harrison, Montana wasn’t a state so I won’t continue.

If she represents Montana, then that’s not a compliment to Montana citizens.

Go back to GAL and SAMA. You honestly don’t have the intellectual wherewithal to successfully compete in this arena. This is not said in a joking manner in case you’re wondering.
I’m not here to compete, but I stick by my statement. And go fuck yourself with that Intellectual Wherewithal crack, joking or not.

But come on man, you gotta’ know how that sounds when you make statements that general, that personal and that short.

If you want to debate your views on Palin (or anything for that matter), using tactics like this only lead to flames and pissing matches…nobody fucking wins when that happens.

You’re a funny dude, from what I’ve seen in other sub forums, use that to your advantage man.

Just some friendly advice from your neighborhood shmuck.

I know. I was agreeing with you.

I infer by the large number of people who voted for Obama indicates that there is a cross section of parts of Montana which contains voters who aren’t represented by Palin…

(but they contain transplants from California, so they aren’t representative of real Montanans anyway, and don’t really count.)

I don’t dislike her political views or personally dislike her. But whenever she’s interviewed or she’s debating, she makes herself sound like a hick. “Golly Jee” “Darn Tootin” and shit like that hurt her public image and it bothered me. For her to talk like that on a public stage during the Presidential Election was a bad idea. And to say she represents Montana, people outside of Montana will think “Citizens of Montana talk like hicks and are fools”, even though that’s not true.

I feel that people in general look at Palin as a political punching bag. And when using her as the most likely representative of Montana, Montana will be mocked as well.

If she can cut out the “Golly Jee” crap, she could have made a great run in 2012 and she wouldn’t be mocked as much.

And I’m not trying to flame anyone. I save that for GAL.

It’s funny how that real Montanan’s thing works though. When I was younger, I was quick to bash any ‘foreigners’ who dared enter my (sic) state. But, then I met my father-in-law, who is from Illinois (of all places) and he makes ME look like a Californian. lol

Then I started really, critically thinking about those who I would consider real Montanan’s and it shocked me that it was almost 50/50 in-house and ‘foreigners.’ AND…I wasn’t one of them!

Pretty ugly realization I must say.

You go ahead and stick to your statement. Palin and her family are a lot like me and my family - both my side and Meesuspush’s side of the family. So when you make a statement about Montanans like you did you’re talking about her and me too.

I’ll give you the chance to repeat the “Fuck yourself” line in Columbus at the Arnold if I can make it there. I have a feeling you’re just another internet mouth and like you said in another thread you’d probably be a bit more humble in person.
Read my last post. And if you still feel the same way, I’m sure we’ll have our T-meet and greet at the Arnold in Columbus.

Lol, could be worse, our last national newsworthy ‘citizens’ or politicians were the Unibomber, Max Baucus, the Freemen and a child molester that kept the kids with him while on the run.

Very true.

Bottom line is you hit the wrong nerve on the wrong night. I might tell more about it here or on another thread. It’s a doozy, trust me. And it has nothing to do with TN or this topic.
I’ve been thinking about my initial reaction during this whole conversation and have realized that it was more or less an automatic response, instead of an intelligent, well-thought out criticism…basically, I was trying to find correlation where there probably was none.

To be honest, I really don’t know much of anything about Palin, specifically (of course, other than the general bullshit presented from media). She became sort of an abstraction for me during the campaign and instead of looking into it, like I usually do (since I have zero social life), I lumped her into the ‘politician’ caricature.

That’s the funny thing about reactions (not instincts)…usually they’re fucking wrong.

Maybe now would be the time to introduce someone…oh…maybe someone from…say…North Carolina who does NOT talk like a hick (? gulp ?) and who was considered “presidential material” at one time…in the not too distant past. Someone with integrity. Someone who is surely a whole lot smarter and more sophisticated than the Palin peasant girl.

(Someone who might not be a “compliment” to North Carolina citizens)

That was a dirtbag move by Pretty Boy John Edwards to cheat on his cancer ridden wife. It was a hot button issue for a few months and then it slowly died down. Its not brought up at all around here. Our most recent scandal is former Governor Easley getting discounts on real estate properties while he was in office. It boils down to him receiving favors and/or bribes.

Both of these guys did some bad stuff, but they aren’t in the national news as much as Palin and they aren’t mocked like Palin is. The newsweek cover, the david letterman issues, the father of her grand daughter publicly bad mouthing her, and whatever else that happened during the elections. She has a bad reputation, but she doesn’t deserve most of it. I still think the “Golly Jee” stuff is terrible.

And for the record, I wasn’t mocking your family, Montana, or you(but only in PWI forums. Outside of PWI, you’re fair game).
pushharder wrote:

I probably stick up for her more than I should for one reason: the media maliciously butchered her. It was insidiously malevolent what they did. And many of you who have drawn negative conclusions about her did so at the behest of that media. I know so because you really had nothing else to draw from.

You watch the mutilated, heavily edited Gibson and Couric interviews and think you have her all figured out. You digest the NBC, L.A. Times and New York Times editorials and think you’re quite the political discerners. Uh uh. Righto.
Even worse…I didn’t even see the interviews, read her book or the editorials or see much on T.V. other than a clip here and there. I basically condemned her simply for working in the government.
