Goin' Kickin' and Screamin'

Good luck on the games big guy. I have to say, when I see that photo of you and the kilt, I think of the Mike Cross song “The Scottsman” (its a bad recording but you get the idea… The Scotsman by Mike Cross (Boydy) - YouTube ) I agree with LS and DCA, you can pull off the kilt thing like no one I know

Thanks for the kind words on our thread. You got a thong with sparklieeeeees on under that?

Hey Hel, I’m starting to get interested in the Games myself, any advice to somebody just starting out?

Love the new avatar, that is a great picture with your little blue sundress.

is that a metal purse?

sorry, man, couldn’t resist…

One of those typical southern summer days, 97 degrees and with the humidity the heat index was 105. Still soaked through my underwear when I got home from work. Strippin down as I headed for the woods I hit the river for a swim/float of about an hour.

LS, The wife keeps insisting I’d look good in pink. I keep saying hell no. As she buys all my clothes I may end up wearing pink soon.
Mathineer, here’s a pretty good calendar of meets. Find one near you and either go see it or jump right in and compete.

If you decide to start training here’s a good link to explain things and how to make some homemade equipment to get you started.

DCA, Some of the larger meets have an under 200# category but your right, size and weight play a big part. I usually figure on being one of the smaller guys at 235.

JW, I love good ole drinking songs. I really love drinking to good ole drinking songs.
Big Barry, thong underneath? We just go pure redneck down here and duct tape our equipment to the leg.

Joe, See the link I gave Mathineer and make up some practice equipment. There may be a meet in Montgomery in September but it’s kind of iffy for now. You’d probably enjoy the gatherings as many have the feel of renaissance fairs with vendors, musicians, and usually at least one selling reenactment weapons. On the lifting side, zerchers, goblets, explosive pulls. A discus and shot background definitely help, too.

Mj, I would never carry a metal purse. It would clash with my pith helmet.

Been busy, but good luck at the meet. The standard cliche applies: “May you be standing far away from where the weights land.”

x2 - throw High and Far brother!

I thought the “purse” was a lunch bucket.

kmc

i think i would totally kill it in blanket dress. I am so totally getting into highland games.

I hear that spike heels work well for the hammer?

56# lunch bucket? Now that’s some good eatin’!
Home from work
swim
Porterhouse for me, ribeye for the wife, she soaks them in port wine over night
mushrooms, green onions, cucumber salad and rice
Packed up everything. Meets only 35 miles away so don’t have to leave til 0730.
A new place opened up exactly 2.5 miles from my front door. It’s called Kalidescoopes, a family run ice cream parlor. Evil wife has decided she needs a banana split. Think she’s trying to bulk up to 105. Just to keep her company I’ll go have a triple scoop strawbeery sundae. Training is hell.
Report after the meet tomorrow.

mmmmmmmmmmmm drool

Long, long, hot day yesterday. Loved it. First, my wife says I never smile in pictures so here I am impresonating a Scot.

Good for you big guy. Hope you tore it up!

Super well run event. Good judging, plenty of liguids. You have to win a B and hit certain marks to move up to A. Size definitely helps in this sport. Some of the other competitors shown. At 235 I was a light weight here. My sheath toss sucked and I only managed to turn the caber once. Didn’t feel too bad there cause only 4 of us turned it at all.

My best event, stone throw.

Start of 28# weight for distance

28# in air

Setting the pick on the caber, showing my best side
