It looks like you were able to apply those training & performance tips from that last meet to this one! Great day of throwin’ Harry!

Thanks Jack, SD. Threw a bunch of irregular shaped stones before this meet to get more use to the feel and practice keeping the elbow up. Hammer and Weight for height are all about long arm/arms and that’s what I concentrated on. Sheaf, just practiced it some. Still my worst event but it’s getting better. A side note. Learned a lot on the sheaf. 2 over 40/under 200# master’s both broke the world record for the sheaf toss, 31’, an one over 50/over 200 broke it for his category, 31’11".

Edit: Jeff Baty who broke over 50/over 200 record just posted vid of his record throw. Here’s how the sheaf should be done. - YouTube

Pictures are coming in from different people who were at the meet. Upskirt shot. 22# braemar stone.

16# open
edit: wife swears I’m just hitting a pose on this one. Yeah and that stone’s just hangin in the air there, dear.

Life is good,

This morning
We’re about to built an ark down here if it doesn’t stop raining. Been real fun delivering the mail in. Hit the river at 0500 and swam for an hour. Big breakfast. Quit raining long enough to get a little throwing in. Big holes in the yard. [/quote]

We are thinking about arks locally as well. I used to swim, ever since I lost weight I have trouble keeping warm enough. I’m a little appalled at myself, I used to think if the water was warmer than 60 degrees it was too hot and swam a mile or more more than once in 40 degrees or colder.

I’m impressed by how you keep focus on your goals. That is really a good example.

Thanks Elaikases. Right now I’m figuring out my goals for next year. This years winding down, couple more highland games going on but they’re a fer piece away and the closer it gets to the holiday season the harder it gets for me to get Saturdays off. That’s about it for my competition season. Next year I know there are several more T&F meets and I plan on starting the highland game season a lot earlier. Also I really want to get in a least one powerlifting meet and some guys have asked me to do the swimming part of a couple of Triathlon relays (didn’t know there was such a thing). So, I’m currently trying to come up with a lifting program to cover everything.
Let see:
Bench - check
Squat - check
deadlift - check
other stuff - check
repeat
That should cover it. Think I might copyright the system.
Back to the gym tomorrow night.

Hel, can I run your program, only substitute in Olympic lifts and kettlebells, and still call it Hel’s program?

Great pics, by the way, that looks like a lotta fun.

I like the workout. The pictures are cool too.

You can call it the “Train like Hel” program.

Fall is in the air. The temperature’s in the low 70’s today and people are putting up Halloween decorations on my route and around town. That holiday mood is in the air. Got my sights set on improving all my throws next year and that means I’ve got to get stronger. Move into a new category in T&F next year, 55-59.
Feelin good. Workout felt great, too. A little nip in the air always gets me pumped up for lifting.

Right after work.

Wife’s making staek sandwiches as I type. Just told me she’s made reservations at a fancy resturant for Saturday night. Good day and night.

Solid workout Hel.

Just wondering, do you usually put Deads before Squats when you combine both in same session…any reason for it?

I personally do the opposite 'cos I can’t trust my lower back after deads, and I would find it easier to bail on the deads than on squat if I need to.

Hope all is well with you & yours! Loved the Highland Games pics & the link to the sheaf toss was awesome too! Take care for now…
Art

formfunction, like to do my deads or lower back work before squats. The lower back work tightens me up and for some reason all the tightness is gone after a few sets of squats. Don’t feel squats in my lower back at all. Correction, don’t feel regular squats in my lower back. Zerchers I sometimes feel there.
Art, really good to hear from you. So you’re taking on the deep blue sea. That looks so fun. Yo Momma’s into sailin, too. I never did learn to stay in the boat, got to try that. Love to the whole family. Beautiful pictures.

Cooked my world famous breakfast at the Vets home after workout this morning. Paid a visit to sister-in-laws bristo thingy place this afternoon for cucumber and alfalfa sprout sandwiches with tomato and dill soup. The soup was actually great but had to make an emergency stop at Kaliedoscoops for a strawberry sunday afterwards. Off tomorrow for Columbus day so hitting the gym early.

You’re a stud. The best to ya.

True confession time. I am a wuss. I fear neither man nor beast but something far more hideous. A violation of my “personal space”. Being within the “you’re over 50 now” age group, I’ve so far, by hook and crook, and just blowing off appointments, managed to avoid the dreaded colonoscopy. Yeah, yeah, I know, it’s nothing. Everyone I know who’s had it tells me so. It’s just something about the indignity of being knocked out, rolled over, and having a scope shoved up my ass. And I’ll get pictures, too! Anyway, had my first appointment today and scheduled for the procedure next Tuesday. I can hardly wait. Don’t worry, I won’t share the pictures with you.

Found this beauty on the way home from my doctors appointment. Old country hardware store. Highland games requires a 3 tine fork. Thought I’d have to order it off the internet. Now to sharpen the tines. And practice, a lot.
