Do full squats cause too much glute development? I have seen lifters perform full squats for extended periods of time and develop impressive quads, but also develop “bubble” like glutes? Is there a predisposition to develop glutes like this? Also does squatting and deadlifting during the same week cause the glutes to grow more so than the quads and hams?
Thank you
Squats, deads, lunges and other exercises will build the glutes, but a lot of how they look (bubble butt) is more of an issue of genetics. Some people develop different glutes than others.
If this is a concern of yours, then maybe you have your priorities messed up. It’s just like women who don’t want to train legs for the fear of them getting bigger.
Do the exercises and let form follow function.
Took the words right out of my mouth, Nate.
First off, the development of the glueals builds backwards, not out to the sides. This is a fairly common misconception.
Second, you might want to examine her degree of pelvic tilt. If she’s got a huge anterior pelvic tilt, it’s definitely going to make her butt stick out more (real scientific talk here!)
Lastly, as Nate said, a lot of its genetics. I had a big butt before I ever trained squats, lunges, or anything that works the glutes. Think about it like this: Do you think JLo did heavy squats and lunges to get her butt to look like that? I think not!
Stay strong
Mike
Also, that bubble butt might just be a load of lard. You need to be VERY lean to see where you stand. And just because you can see some abs doens’t mean you’re reasonably lean. I can see them and I am definetely a lardass right now.
