Hey Guys,
Whats the maximum reccomended daily supplement in grams for glutamine powder?
Can’t answer that but I will say that there is a two part series of articles avaiblable on TMag with the latest research on glutamine and dispelling some of the myths about it.
Here is part 1 “Destroying the Glutamine Dogma”
I know that there are conflicing views but I see glutamine as one of those things that would be at the absolute last of my “to buy” list after food/protein, gym memberships, more protein, and supps like Tribex, Mag10, HR, R-ALA, etc. produce results I can immediately see as opposed to something like glutamine.
I’ve never noticed much from glutamine myself and I’ve used regular doses to poliquin doses. However, does anyone ever use arginine with your post workout P+C meal (poliquin recommended it awhile back).
One good application for glutamine is maintaining (or repairing) integrity of the stomach and intestinal lining.
One very common ailment is leaky gut syndrome, which is where the lining of the intestine basically has small holes in it through which larger-than-normal particles get through and cause problems.
How useful it would actually be in this application, of course, depends greatly on the individual. So who knows ![]()
Otherwise, I’ve taken over 30g of it a day for the above reason with absolutely no problems.
Ok, thanks guys.
leaky gut syndrome?
LOL
Highwaystart…I guess you don’t know what it is?
no, but it sounds funny. is that the scientific term?
Atkins recommends twenty to forty grams of the stuff, for a variety of reasons. Definately no issue of too much for him.
Atkins obviuously had the money to buy that much. Funny glutamine story. I used too buy it a year or so ago, before I wisened up. Anyway, the girl that used to sell it to me used to tell me how amazing it was for her recovery and that it did some really good things for her physique. Well, I bought her stories, every time. Turns out she never lifted weights, never did much in the way of physical fitness. Not only was I taken by the supplement industry, I was taken by the sales chick, too. Damn stuff never did anything for me except bust my wallet every month.
I tend to take 5g of Glutamine plus some other BCAA’s on the mornings I am doing cardio before breakfast to preserve LBM as much as possible. Tampa Terry does the same…anyone else?
I sip a 40g mixture of BCAA’s and Glutamine during workouts. Both are top 5 supps for me along with Surge, creatine and fish oils.
I just love to hear NeilG answer these questions…
I take about 3 to 4 grams of glutamine per day mainly for intestinal health.
