I have just searched and read a brainful (not much for me) of information on glucosamine, so don’t lambaste me for posting on this topic for probably the umpteen millionth time. An update is due.
There is much anecdotal support for glucosamine as a joint/cartilage restoration/prevention supplement. The same goes for chondroitin, and as the two are almost always sold together, I will consider it moot. I have found less written on MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), and thus am curious about its efficacy. Is it doing anything other than draining the wallet?
A hyooge issue here is glucosamine’s supposed (negative) effect on insulin sensitivity. I have seen various statements and conclusions from LL, TC, I believe DB, and others dating back into the late 90s. What is the latest? I recall that one of the resident nutritional experts was doing a self administered experiment - LL or DB I think - results?
Any pointers/suggestions/links/whatever/money would be appreciated. Thanks all!
LL talked about Gluco… in one of his recent articles. Pretty much saying that its joint health properties and such arew worth the little effect on body comp.
There ain’t much on MSM true, but there is an abstract comparing glucosamine + chondrotin to those 2 + MSM, and adding the MSM did produce added benefit. I can’t find the abstract now.
I have a powerpoint presentation that was a nice overview of glucosamine and chondroitin, plus some new research on it. If anyone wants it, just PM me with your e-mail address.
I’m interested in hearing anyone’s personal accounts with MSM as well. I have some sitting at home but didn’t start taking it because I’m taking HOT-ROX and want to read that’s its ok to take in conjunction, which probably is. But I would be using it to help with a wrist injury, as opposed to indefinite supplementation. One thing I know is that it only works for as long as you take it.
