Did you say “Starship Troopers”???

Meh, I liked the book. The movie could have been a lot worse and I still would have liked it.

I liked the shower scene, that was about it. Didn’t read the book because the movie was so dumb. Too many pretty people trying to be grunts. “WE GET YOU SIR!!!” they lost me with that.

Kingdom of Heaven is worth a look if you enjoyed Braveheart and Gladiator. It’s not quite as good, but I liked it a lot.

Orlando Bloom doesn’t ruin the movie like he did in Troy. I don’t have anything against him, but his character is more likeable this time around.

I’m surprised no one mentioned tombstone in their top 5. Come on doc holiday had tb and he still got out of bed to kill ringo. Not to mention all the one liners in that movie.

Read the book. Read the book. Read the goddamn book.

But on the actual topic. I’m going to go with Rob Roy over Braveheart. The fight scenes of Gladiator were good but the story was kinda meh to me. I’m gonna have to go with the Zatoichi films. The old 1954 Miyamoto Musashi film was pretty good too.

BJJ? They said it was Tai Chi in the movie.[/quote]

I think he’s saying BJJ because Mel used a triangle choke at the end to bring Busey down. Tai Chi is mentioned early in the movie, not sure what I’d all that fight scene, just a damn nice fight.

I’ll throw one in as battle scenes,

Last of the Mohicans

You’ve got scalpings, hearts beign cut out, hand to hand combat and black powder rifles…whats not to love.
The ending fight is way too short, although the setting is an amazing place. Went there this summer.

Scotland Forever, Freedom.
Braveheart is way better than That Gladiator Rubbish. Sorry just had to say it. 300 was pretty sweet

I finished Kingdom of Heaven yesterday and actually enjoyed it quite a bit. I expected as much; Ridley Scott has never disappointed me as far as I can remember…

Oh man, how could I have forgotten that one in this conversation? Now that I think on it, I’d say my order is different that I had previously posted:

Braveheart
LOTM
Gladiator
300

Yeah, it was filmed entirely in North Carolina:

That area of the country is probably my favorite. I need to get over there more often. Now that my parents are both retired they’re considering buying a vacation home in the Black Mountain area, so hopefully I’ll have more opportunities.

I personally think the shower scene is highly overrated. For those who haven’t seen it, you can judge for yourself:

I agree wholeheartedly. What the hell were all those women doing in the MI? Shoulda been all men.

Both characters played great leaders…and were an inspiration.

I’ve give the nod to Braveheart based on its quasi true story…and what the real William Wallace did for Scotland.

I’m going to 300 on Friday…

I was actually thinking about this last night after I’d posted my first response. It adds an interesting dynamic to the comparison of the two stories.

Did you see “The Duellists”? Don’t miss it, Keitels best work since Taxi Driver…

I’ve always been fond of the idea from the book that you are not considered a voting citizen without performing some type of military service…

You are right. It’s been a long time. Still the highlight of the whole movie.
