Rob Roy was a good movie. But it didn’t have the fanfare and star power that Braveheart did. I think the end duel in Rob Roy was rather cheezy however.
I loved the final duel. Excellent movie.
And I give Braveheart a slight edge.

Personally, I think Mel could kick the shit out of Russel Crow as well. In fact, given his prior BJJ experience, I guarantee it.
No way, Rusty would clean up Mel anyday, Mel’s got lazy, Rusty’s got the mongrel in him.
Braveheart was better than Gladiator by far. When I saw Gladiator the first time, I remember thinking the plot felt rushed and underdeveloped. They both had great evil characters that seemed to upstage the hero though.

BJJ? They said it was Tai Chi in the movie.
Gladiator by far, and I dont say that because of my screen name or the fact that I was born in Rome. You are talking about the Roman Empire, arguably the most influencial in all of society today with all it’s influences. Braveheart was a great film in it’s own respect, but like someone else previously mentioned, you are weighing fact versus fiction.
If it came down to a battle, I think Maximus would beat William Wallace. William Wallace had to only deal with the English, while Maximus dealt with numerous adversaries while expanding the Roman Empire. You are also talking about people who were ahead of their time with military strategy and technology. Rome succeeded as it did due to its ability to move its soldiers with speed and precision with its roads, (Hence the saying, “All roads lead to Rome.”)
300 was a good movie but the style of filming was too comic book for me. I deal in reality and want to see it in that fashion. No doubt an entertaining movie, Leonitis has a commanding presence. Still worth it to watch.
George Clooney is supposedly working on a movie based on “Gates of Fire”. Now that 300 is out, I doubt another movie on the same battle will be made.
I like both movies a lot. The thing about Braveheart that bugs me is if you pay attention to the background fighters they are not fighting hard. The background fighters are moving very slowly and “play fighting” less intensely than my 2 kids do. In the end, Gladiator wins for its battle scene against the Germans and of course the arena fighting.
gladiator.i havent seen 300 yet
1.300
2. gladiator
3.
4. braveheart.

Go get Rob Roy. Not as bloody and brutal as Braveheart of Gladiator, but damn that guy was hard as nails. The bad guy in the movie is brilliant. I was never a Liam Neeson fan until this movie. His Star Wars stuff sucks badly compared to Rob Roy.
I plan on checking it out soon along with Kingdom of Heaven, another “epic” I happened to miss at the theater.
I’m a bit surprised no one has mentioned King Arthur yet. I actually liked that movie quite a bit. Did no one else here like it?
The best war movie ever is Saving Private Ryan.
I would put 300 2nd.
Number 3 is Platoon.

I would like to see a more historically accurate version of that battle/campaign in a movie. I would definitely watch it.
I guess I completely missed kingdom of heaven. Is that any good?

A “Private Ryan” version of Thermopylae would be incredible. “Kingdom of Heaven” was pretty good, but not a top 10 pick.

“rushed and underdeveloped” ? it was a full 2 1/2 hours on just about the simplest plot anywhere …i’m confused. i agree on the great villain in gladiator, but i thought the villains in braveheart were like cartoons .
