5 Greatest Movies Ever Made

Ok, so I know there are a bunch of movie threads around already (there always are), but I was thinking recently about the very BEST movies I have seen, those that left an impression on me, and not just ones I saw out with friends for the ‘oh cool’ factor.

I haven’t seen very many classic movies (I’m working on it). But there are some films I have watched that I think are absolute gems.

(No particular order)

 1. American Beauty
 2. Fight Club (seriously)
 3. A Clockwork Orange
 4. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
 5. Die Hard

Post your own.

You might want to see The Shawshank Redemption,
Goodfellas, and The Godfather.

I know you have not seen them because they are absent form your list.

I can guarantee no one will dispute those three.

One of my personal favorites is American Psycho. For some reason I really like Training Day too.

 1. Transformers (2007)
 2. The Rock
 3. Bad Boys
 4. Bad Boys II
 5. The Island

Michael Bay rules!

Children…

In no particular order

The Good the Bad and The Ugly

The Godfather

The Grand Illusion

King Kong (old school)

Sunset Boulevard

Not only are these great, but they will teach you everything you need to know about life, love, politics, manhood, and the Movies themselves.

 1. Pulp Fiction
 2. No Country for Old Men
 3. Braveheart
 4. Full Metal Jacket
 5. Raging Bull

EDIT: Others would be Unforgiven, Cinderella Man, The Godfather saga, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Kill Bill, and Sin City.

Ha.

I agree with Fight Club, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Shawshank Redemption. I’ll add the Fellowship of the Ring (stunningly beautiful movie) and Cinema Paradiso.

God damn it I can’t help adding more honorable mentions (I was a film major, give me slack) - Memento, Children of Men, and Moulin Rouge, Kill Bill (II, if I had to choose), and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Damn it The Good, the Bad, and The Ugly is soooo good. I can’t believe I forgot it. My excuse is there are more than five greatest movies ever made. I would never be able to decide.

It is hard to decide, but I think a basic rule is to go back to the originals. Pulp fiction is an awesome movie, but doesn’t earn greatness status because Tarantino is a midget standing on the shoulders of giants.

True. I thought Tarrantino and Rodriguez were revolutionary in my youthful folly until I saw Good Bad and Ugly.

Blade runner
Heat
Unforgiven
Man on fire
Star wars

List does vary depending on mood though…

God Father 1&2
Goodfellas
All Lord Of the Rings
Braveheart
Star Wars

Other Favorites:

The Deer Hunter
Full Metal Jacket
Saving Private Ryan
We Were Soldiers
Shawshank Redemption
A History Of Violence

And a lot more but my mind is going blank…I can’t seem to remember titles

You have much to learn, young padawan.

Road House
Flash Gordon
Predator
Zulu
A Shot In The Dark.

Who the hell knows, top 5 is crazy. Top 50 maybe.

In no particular order:

 • The Godfather
 • Casablanca
 • Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
 • Shichinin No Samurai
 • Dr Strangelove

Ok, I have a question: Are we doing the five greatest movies ever made, or are we doing our five favorites? 'Cause as much as I hate to admit it, my 5 faves aren’t the 5 best.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Man on Fire
Rocky Balboa
Mr. Baseball
ALI

I was wondering the same thing; I have the movie preferences of an adolescent male. If I feel intellectual, I read a book.

That being said, the movies in my DVD collection that I watch the most are:

The Evil Dead trilogy

The Matrix trilogy

The Kill Bill movies

The Riddick movies

Sean of the Dead

Braveheart
The Patriot
Saving Private Ryan
Deuce Bigalow European Gigalow
Hotel Rwanda

I don’t have a top five but i’ll try:

-Elephant man (black and white movie)
-The girl who leapt through time (anime)
-La vita e bella (world war 2 movie)
-Amadeus (the one on mozart’s life)
-Tous les matins du monde (french movie)

Also, any “war” movie is good: Spartacus, platoon, deer hunter, saving private ryan, etc

I like British films:

Quadrophenis
Human Traffic
Lock stock
Snatch
Trainspotting
